Republicans Seek Election Changes in Georgia and Texas, Including Abbott Voter Roll Removals

Democracy Now! describes Republican efforts to change how elections are conducted in the United States, including restrictions on who can vote and changes to voting, counting, and certification procedures, with the outcome of a close presidential contest between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris depending on votes in key states.

The same Democracy Now! account says the Texas attorney general Ken Paxton ordered raids on organizations serving immigrant and Latina communities, including SWAT-supported searches of a dozen members of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC).

Democracy Now! reports that the Georgia Democratic Party, the Democratic National Committee, and ten Democratic election officials from various Georgia counties filed a lawsuit to reverse changes to how counties count and certify votes.

The Washington Post says the GOP fields for governor include activists who took vocal, and sometimes official, actions supporting Trump’s efforts to claim victory in 2020, and it notes that at least 30 candidates have embraced overhauling election policies.

It also reports that Trump last month signed an executive order seeking to limit who can vote by mail, and that the Justice Department has seized 2020 ballots in Georgia and taken possession of a trove of 2020 election data in Arizona.
