Missile crosses into Poland
Russian missiles and drones struck Ukraine overnight, and Kyiv said a Russian missile violated NATO airspace in Poland as the attack spread from Kyiv to regions including Lviv, Sumy, and Kharkiv.

During the same wave, Poland’s authorities said an “unidentified object” violated national airspace, prompting the deployment of a fighter jet and a helicopter, and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha alleged on X that the object was a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile.
The crash site was identified near the eastern village of Tarnawa-Kolonia, where NATO’s Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe spokesperson Colonel Martin O’Donnell said NATO and Poland activated air and ground defenses in response to a Russian missile that entered Polish airspace and later crashed into Polish territory.
At the same time, ABC News said a Russian ballistic missile hit a residential building near Zelenskyy’s home town of Kryviyh Rih, killing several members of a family including at least three children, and it said Lviv’s mayor Andriy Sadovyi reported at least 20 people injured.
NATO, Poland, Ukraine trade claims
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said he was in contact with NATO command and other European leaders regarding the violation of Polish airspace, and he insisted there was “no reason to think Poland was the intended target.”
The Spokesman-Review quoted Tusk at the crash site saying there was “very likely” an explosion given the impact crater’s size, while it also said he cautioned there is “no reason to believe that Poland was the target.”
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte called the incident “yet another reckless act by Russia and a dangerous consequence of its war against Ukraine,” and NATO said it was in close contact with Polish authorities about the violation of Poland’s airspace.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on X that the missile was “a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile” that violated NATO airspace, and he framed it as “yet another clear demonstration that strengthening Ukraine’s air defense now is urgent.”
The Washington Post reported that NATO said the missile landed in a rural area and did not cause any injuries, while it described the episode as raising “fresh concerns” about escalation into direct confrontation with the Western military alliance.

The incident prompted NATO to say it would “take all necessary measures to defend Nato territory,” and it was tied in reporting to a broader pattern of Russian airspace violations affecting NATO members.

France 24 reported that NATO, Ukraine, and European leaders strongly condemned Russia for breaching Poland’s airspace, while it said a NATO spokesman, Martin O’Donnell, described the event as “one of many missiles fired by Russia at Ukraine overnight.”
ABC News said Zelenskyy blamed “insufficient or delayed” air defense supplies for deaths across Ukraine and argued that “This Russian terror once again proves: protecting against the Russian missile threat is the most important task for preserving the lives of our people.”
In Poland, the object’s suspected origin was repeatedly linked to the Russian Kh-101, with TVP World quoting NATO’s confirmation that the crash involved “a Russian missile of currently unknown type that entered Polish airspace and later crashed into Polish territory.”
The Washington Post added that a senior NATO military official told it the incident was not expected to trigger Article 4, while ABC News said authorities in Poland deployed a fighter jet and a helicopter after the airspace violation was detected.
