Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are expected to hold their wedding at Madison Square Garden on Friday night, with a law enforcement official briefed on the security plans telling the Associated Press the festivities will kick off with a smaller rehearsal dinner planned for Thursday night.

The People report said Madison Square Garden was undergoing a transformation ahead of the couple's expected wedding this weekend, with trucks spotted outside MSG on Monday, June 29 and boxes labeled "Garden Party" and "Mirror Ball" seen among the equipment.

People also said a City Hall representative later confirmed to PEOPLE that a permit has been filed through the City Street Activity Office to shut down the area around MSG, and The New York Times reported Swift rented the arena for a multi-day event.
On Tuesday, June 30, workers were seen putting down red carpet at MSG, and the stairs leading into the south entrance were covered in a red velvet rug as staff continued to prepare for the event.
ESPN added that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Wednesday that a permit had been filed for a "large event" at Madison Square Garden and that police would have "a detail in place" while Jessica Tisch declined further detail.
Security, phones, and crowds
Multiple outlets described a tight security posture around the Madison Square Garden events, including a no-phone policy for everyone inside the venue, with ABC News saying the strict rule would apply to guests, vendors and security personnel.
ABC News also said the event company obtained permits to close portions of West 31st Street and West 33rd Street for the duration of events, while CNN reported organizers planned to build a tent to obstruct the view of a portion of West 31st Street near Seventh Avenue.
CNN said the larger wedding celebration on Friday would have a ceremony starting at 5:30 p.m. ET and a reception that may go until the early morning hours, with about 1,000 people expected to attend.
CNN further reported that about 500 vehicles are expected to drop off wedding guests and that extra New York Police Department officers would be deployed around Madison Square Garden for the event.
In a separate planning detail, People reported that guests will be forced to adhere to a no-phones policy, with an insider saying "There will be a phone check upon arrival" and that the dress code for the Big Apple bash on Friday, July 3, is black tie.
Guest list and MSG history
While details remain under wraps, People said some stars have outright confirmed they will watch Swift and Kelce walk down the aisle, including George Kittle, Andy Reid, Graham Norton and Suki Waterhouse, and it listed expected attendees including Zoë Kravitz, Jack Antonoff, and Stevie Nicks.

Forbes described the plan as a two-day affair at Madison Square Garden involving street closures, truckloads worth of decor and a black tie dress code, and it said the event company has been tied to Mark Seed, who has been working on it "for months."
Fox News placed the wedding in the context of Madison Square Garden’s own wedding history, recalling that Sly Stone and Kathy Silva said "I do" at the venue in June 1974 and that the event included 20,000 guests and a live concert with The Family Stone.
Fox News also quoted Stone’s memoir line, "I could do a gig, get paid, and get married at the same time," describing how he planned the ceremony just before a concert on the stage.
The Morning Call added that public records indicate the city granted a permit for loading and unloading of stage material at Madison Square Garden between June 29 and July 4, and it said Winick Productions sought a permit to install a tent or canopy outside the venue for an event for up to 999 people.
