- Standard GTA VI priced at $79.99 and about £69.99 in the UK.

- Ultimate Edition costs around $99.99 (£89.99), digital-only access.
Price, platforms, and launch
Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI will cost £70 and $79.99 for the standard edition, with a more premium edition priced at £89.99 and $100 in the US, and it will be released on 19 November on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
“It seems to some of us like just yesterday—even though the transition began more than half a decade ago—that gamers were getting adjusted to spending $70 on AAA game releases at launch instead of $60, but as preorders begin this week for the wildly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI, they’re finding that at least that title will sell for $80”
The BBC said Rockstar confirmed the physical copies will contain a code for a digital download “rather than a disc,” and it added that players who pre-order digital versions can begin pre-loading on November 12.

The Verge framed the same decision as a shift in how physical games work, noting that “the physical versions of GTA VI won’t include a disc, and instead will only contain a download code inside the box.”
Engadget described the physical edition as “overpriced DRM in a box,” saying that if you spend $80 on the physical edition you “receive a box with a code inside” rather than a disc.
Code-in-box sparks backlash
Vic Hood, a freelance video games journalist, told the BBC the price for the standard edition was “fairly reasonable,” but said the lack of disc may “irk some physical collectors.”
The BBC also quoted Hood explaining the business logic, saying the decision makes sense “as it reduces the amount of rebuying and reselling and helps prevent leaks.”

IGN reported that Rockstar’s move has triggered fears that it could be “the end of the Video Game Disc,” and it quoted an IGN reader, DenimChicken15, saying “$80 and no physical? Easiest pass of my life.”
Kotaku added that two video game retailers confirmed they won’t be selling GTA 6 because it “isn’t shipping on a physical disc and will instead be digital-only at launch,” citing Video Games Plus’s policy against “only a digital download code.”
What it means for ownership
The Verge warned that if a game you don’t own digitally is removed from a storefront, “your only option is to hope you can find a physical version,” and it said digital games can’t be sold or traded like discs.
“The Grand Theft Auto 6 physical edition is overpriced DRM in a box”
Engadget argued that the code-in-a-box model makes ownership feel hollow, writing that “we’re simply spending more to own nothing,” while also saying “the GTA VI physical edition is the clearest, most tangible example of this trend.”
Variety reported that Rockstar said GTA 6 will be “a single-player experience” at launch, and it described the physical version as “a code in a box rather than a disc format.”
Eurogamer said Circana analyst Mat Piscatella called the high pricing “possible and plausible,” while also quoting Ampere Analysis’ Piers Harding-Rolls saying the “mid-tier” edition is “perhaps the most interesting” because it could entice buyers with bonuses.
