Three Arrested After Woman Shot Dead Outside One Four One Bar In Sheffield

A 30-year-old woman was shot dead outside the One Four One bar on West Street in Sheffield city centre in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday, after police were called to the scene at around 2.45am.

South Yorkshire Police said the woman was found with serious injuries and later died in hospital, and three people were arrested on suspicion of murder: a 30-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman near Stockport, and a 30-year-old man in Sheffield, with all three remaining in custody.

Assistant Chief Constable Colin McFarlane said the incident was “devastating” and “has resulted in the death of a young woman while on a night out during the bank holiday weekend in Sheffield,” while the BBC reported the victim was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

The Guardian said a murder investigation was launched after the shooting outside the bar, and it reported that a stretch of West Street and surrounding roads remained closed while the police investigation continued.

McFarlane urged witnesses to come forward, saying “Now is not the time to stay silent,” and he pointed to people in the area around West Street and Eldon Street who “saw what happened or know who is responsible.”

The Telegraph said police were appealing for witnesses who were outside One Four One on Sunday night to contact the force, and it added that information could be shared “completely anonymously via Crimestoppers.”

The BBC reported that South Yorkshire Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime Kilvinder Vigurs said “everything possible is being done to protect our communities,” and it quoted her urging the public to come forward to prevent “innocent members of the public becoming victims of senseless violence of this nature.”

While the investigation remained ongoing, the BBC said police would continue to have a “significant presence at the scene in the area today and in the coming days,” and it described forensic officers working inside One Four One as the cordon stretched along West Street.

The shooting triggered a major police response that closed parts of the city centre, with the Oz Arab Media report saying West Street was closed between Mappin Street and Westfield Terrace and that sections of Eldon Street, Westhill Lane, and part of Orange Street were also shut off.

The Times of India reported that the road closures hit public transport across the city centre, with Supertram services unable to run between Cathedral and Middlewood or Malin Bridge until further notice.

It also said the operator confirmed on X that ticket acceptance had been arranged with First and Stagecoach buses to cover the disrupted routes, while South Yorkshire Police said in a statement: “We know this incident will cause concern amongst our local communities and we will provide further updates as soon as we are able to.”

Across the coverage, the arrests remained the focus of the investigation, with multiple outlets stating that three people were in custody and that formal identification of the woman had not taken place, while her family had been informed and were being supported by officers.
