Ceasefire on life support
President Donald Trump said Monday that the ceasefire with Iran is “on life support” and “unbelievably weak” after the two sides exchanged fire this weekend, while Trump labeled Iran’s peace proposal “garbage.”
NBC News reported that the U.S. and Iran were at an impasse after Tehran dismissed Washington’s own offer as “one-sided” and accused Trump of making “unreasonable,” “excessive demands.”

Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that “Two days ago, they said, ‘You’re going to have to take it,’” but that Iran “changed their mind because they didn’t put it in the paper” document.
In parallel, the Al Jazeera report said Pakistan rejected allegations it had sheltered Iranian military aircraft from potential U.S. strikes as the fragile ceasefire it helped broker appeared increasingly at risk.
Iran’s Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said at a news conference that “Everything we proposed” was “reasonable and generous not only for Iran’s national interests, but also for the good and well-being of the region and the world.”
Reactions and mediation dispute
Iran’s parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, described as having served as chief negotiator in previous talks with Washington, said shortly afterwards that his country was prepared “for any eventuality.”
The Times of India quoted Ghalibaf writing on X that “Our armed forces are ready to respond and to teach a lesson for any aggression,” as oil prices rose and hopes for reopening the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping faded.

Al Jazeera reported that Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry called a CBS News report “misleading and sensationalised,” saying aircraft had arrived as part of diplomatic logistics linked to talks in Islamabad between senior U.S. and Iranian officials on April 11.
In the same Al Jazeera account, a Pakistani official said mediation requires impartiality to succeed rather than pushing agendas, adding: “Objective is to resolve the complex, historical, highly consequential conflict rather than earning brownie points or headline diplomacy.”
The dispute over the proposal’s rejection remained central, with Trump posting on Truth Social that he described Iran’s response as “TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE” and later telling reporters in the Oval Office that the ceasefire was “massive life support.”
What’s at stake next
The Korea Times said oil prices rallied on Monday after Trump said Iran’s response to a U.S. proposal was “unacceptable,” with Brent crude futures climbing $4.04 or 3.99 percent to $105.33 a barrel at 0614 GMT.
The Korea Times also said the Strait of Hormuz stayed largely closed, keeping the global market tight, and it cited Priyanka Sachdeva of Phillip Nova saying the oil market “continues to trade like a geopolitical headline machine.”
In the Al Jazeera report, Iran’s demands included war reparations, recognition of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, and an end to American sanctions, while Washington rejected the proposal Trump described as “a piece of garbage.”
The Hindu reported that the fragile ceasefire was tested when a drone ignited a small fire on a ship off Qatar, and the UAE said it shot down two drones and blamed Iran.
The Hindu added that the U.S. military blockaded Iranian ports since April 13, saying it had turned back 61 commercial vessels and disabled four, while the UN nuclear agency said Iran has more than 440 kilograms (970 pounds) enriched up to 60 per cent purity.
