CENTCOM said six of the missiles were intercepted and the seventh did not reach its target, after it shot down four Iranian attack drones launched towards the Strait of Hormuz hours earlier.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it carried out attacks targeting US bases in the region in retaliation for earlier US strikes, while the US military said it hit Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry denounced the US attacks as a “flagrant” violation of the ceasefire in place since April, and Tehran said the US bears responsibility for “all the effects and consequences of these illegal actions”.
Condemnations and competing narratives
Kuwait and Bahrain condemned the Iranian missile and drone strikes, calling them a violation of sovereignty and a threat to regional security, while Egypt, Jordan and Qatar also issued condemnations on Saturday.
Al Jazeera’s Almigdad Alruhaid, reporting from Tehran, said the IRGC’s latest attacks were a “warning” to the US and quoted the IRGC’s framing that the incident began when oil tankers backed by the United States attempted to transit the state of Hormuz without coordinating with the IRGC.

Reporting from Doha, Qatar, Al Jazeera’s Zein Basravi described the tit-for-tat attacks as a “mainstay” of the Iran war, saying each attack hardens political and military positions and makes a negotiated solution “that much more fragile.”
The BBC reported that Iran retaliated by firing ballistic missiles at two US air bases in Kuwait and US Navy facilities in Bahrain, and said Bahrain and Kuwait condemned the attacks after saying the drone and missile fire had been successfully repelled.
Ceasefire talks strained
The exchanges came as US and Iran participated in indirect talks to reach an interim deal to end the war, with Iran seeking sanctions waivers, access to frozen assets, and lifting of a US blockade on its ports.

The US called for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and concessions on Tehran’s nuclear programme, while Al Jazeera’s Zein Basravi said the longer the attacks continue, the harder it is for mediators and the GCC to get to a place where fighting stops.
The BBC said the ceasefire has been in place since April and that there have been several such exchanges of fire, threatening the ceasefire as negotiations stalled and a deal to end the war failed to advance.
In Kuwait, the Kuwait General Staff said air defense systems successfully repelled seven Iranian ballistic missiles and hostile drones that targeted its lands, and it said the heinous Iranian aggression caused material damage but no casualties, while Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry called on Iran to immediately cease its attacks and urged full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz without restrictions or fees.
