Two US soldiers killed and one missing in Iranian attacks

Two US service members have been killed, while one other remains missing, following Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the deaths occurred yesterday in Jordan. The announcement was made at 6.21pm BST today. Four American service members were medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals . The CENTCOM statement reads: "On July 17, two U.S. service members in Jordan were killed in action as U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks. "Additionally, one service member is currently missing. Four American service members were medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals. They have since been discharged. "Other personnel who were evaluated for minor injuries have returned to duty. Out of respect for the families, CENTCOM will withhold additional information, including the identities of the fallen warriors, until 24 hours after the next of kin have been notified." Less than an hour before CENTCOM's announcement, Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran's Supreme Leader, described Trump's signature on the memorandum of understanding as "worthless". In a post on X, he said: "The repeated breaches of the agreement by the Great Satan [the US] regarding the MOU signed by the Presidents of Iran and the US have once again laid bare a fundamental truth: the signature of the US President is utterly worthless and devoid of credibility." The US military said earlier today that it had finished its seventh consecutive night of strikes against Iran as CENTCOM hit "surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage, and maritime capabilities". CENTCOM said: "CENTCOM continues to hold Iran accountable at the Commander in Chief's direction while fully enforcing a naval blockade against Iranian ports." The two latest deaths bring the total of US personnel killed since the start of the war with Iran to at least 16.
