On 30 August 2026, Councillor Owain Clatworthy of Bridgend County Borough Council posted that ‘Britain is being Islamified’. He told readers to ‘walk through Cardiff, Rochdale, Blackburn, Luton, parts of Birmingham, Bradford and large stretches of East London’, wrote that ‘It is not “multiculturalism.” It is one culture. Islam’, that ‘British families have been pushed out’, and closed: ‘I will not sit back and watch this country become something else. Neither should you.’

He said it under his civic title. The account’s display name is ‘Cllr Owain Clatworthy’, it carries a verification badge, and he pinned the post, so it is the first thing anyone visiting that profile sees. It has been viewed more than 343,000 times.

The Welsh Model Code of Conduct binds him. Paragraph 6(1)(a) forbids conduct that could reasonably be regarded as bringing his office or his authority into disrepute, and paragraph 2(1)(d) applies it at all times and in any capacity, so ‘I was posting as a private citizen’ does not reach it. Paragraph 4(a) requires due regard to equality of opportunity for all people regardless of religion, which the paragraph names expressly.
