About this campaign

The finding. On 23 June 2026 the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory published a report, 'The essence of childhood has been destroyed', finding that Israel's deliberate targeting and killing of Palestinian children amounts to genocide and atrocity crimes in Gaza, alongside war crimes in the West Bank.

The UN's own words. The United Nations news service led with the finding: 'Israel continues to commit genocide, atrocity crimes by deliberately targeting Palestinian children, UN independent commission finds'. Many outlets carried that word, including the UN's own news service and Al Jazeera.

The Herald. The Herald (Scotland) ran 'UN committee finds Israel targeted Palestinian children'. It reports the lesser element, that children were targeted, and drops the word that gives the targeting its legal meaning: genocide.
