About this campaign

On 1 May 2026, the Crown Prosecution Service authorised three counts of attempted murder against Essa Suleiman in connection with the Golders Green attack and an earlier attack the same morning at Great Dover Street, Southwark. The third count relates to the alleged attempted murder of Ishmail Hussein, a long-standing acquaintance of the suspect.

The CPS news release of 1 May 2026 ('Man charged with attempted murders after double stabbing in Golders Green') states verbatim: 'The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised three charges of attempted murder against a 45-year-old man after two men were stabbed in Golders Green, on Wednesday, 29 April 2026, and another man attacked on the same day in a different location.' The Metropolitan Police charging announcement on the same day confirms the same three counts.

Despite this, headlines across BBC News, GB News, CNN, NPR, PBS, RTE, the Times of Israel, the Algemeiner, and several US wire-syndicated outlets have framed the prosecution as relating to two Jewish men only — with no headline-level mention of the Southwark count. Under IPSO Editors' Code Clause 1, BBC Editorial Guideline 3.3.16 and Ofcom Broadcasting Code section 5, an inaccurate headline is itself a breach — body-content accuracy is not a defence.
