Criticism of Islam is protected and must stay protected. Abuse shouted at Muslims to frighten them is a religiously aggravated offence, and the power to deal with it already exists. What does not exist is any published standard for when police use it at a demonstration. Ask your MP, the Mayor, the Met and the Home Secretary to publish it, and to say what was assessed before UKIP marched.

About this campaign

Four arrests, and not one of them a marcher. On 29 August 2026 the UK Independence Party marched through central London under the banner of what its leader calls a Ninth Crusade. The Metropolitan Police imposed Public Order Act conditions, moving it off Edgware Road and routing it from Hyde Park Corner through Piccadilly, St James's Street, Pall Mall and Whitehall to Downing Street. About twenty people marched, against around one hundred and fifty counter-protesters. Four people were arrested that day. All four were counter-protesters.

The party is not coy about its subject. Its leader has toured the country holding what he calls crusades, says Muslims who have not integrated must be deported, and his supporters have carried placards reading "Islamist invaders not welcome in Britain".

Criticism of Islam is protected, and it must stay protected. Section 29J of the Public Order Act 1986 expressly covers discussion, criticism, ridicule, insult and abuse of religions and of their adherents' beliefs. This campaign asks for none of that to change. Anyone should be free to argue that a religion is wrong.
