The Los Angeles Times (Nabih Bulos, 4 May 2026) reports that Israel’s AI fuses phone metadata, facial recognition, drone feeds, SIM tracking and social media; builds target profiles in seconds where the same work previously took hundreds of investigators several weeks; and flags relatives and financiers as combatants because they share communication patterns with combatants. An Israeli AI specialist quoted in the same article warned the system uses ‘data, not logic’ and would repeat mistakes ‘faster and with more confidence’. +972 Magazine and Local Call (Yuval Abraham, 3 April 2024), in partnership with The Guardian, report that Israel runs Lavender with an acknowledged 10% error rate; that Israeli analysts spend around 20 seconds reviewing each target; that Lavender flagged up to 37,000 Palestinians as targets; and that Israeli forces used the companion system Where’s Daddy? to wait for a marked individual to enter their family home before striking. The Washington Post (29 December 2024) reports that Israel built Habsora to ‘blast open the human bottleneck’ of conventional target generation. The UN Secretary-General António Guterres is ‘deeply troubled’.
