NewsCord analysed thousands of articles from the BBC, The Guardian, and Sky News covering the conflict in Gaza, classifying excerpts across multiple bias metrics including attribution, passive voice, source qualification, humanisation, legal framing, and the reporting of documented genocidal statements by Israeli officials.
The findings reveal systematic patterns across all three outlets. The BBC names Israel as the perpetrator in just 50% of casualty excerpts and uses passive voice in 80% of casualty sentences. The Guardian names the perpetrator in 54% of cases. All three routinely label the Gaza Health Ministry 'Hamas-affiliated' while noting UN credibility in fewer than 1% of instances.
Across UK media, 'genocide' is rarely mentioned despite the ICJ's provisional measures order, the ICC's arrest warrants, and the UN Commission's finding that Israel has committed genocide. None of the three outlets have reported on documented genocidal statements by Israeli officials — statements cited as evidence of intent in ICJ proceedings.
