Olive harvest attacks

Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian olive harvesters across the occupied West Bank on Friday, setting vehicles on fire and forcing farmers from their land, according to IMEMC News. In Nablus, colonizers attacked farmers harvesting olives in the eastern part of Burin town and olive harvesters on land belonging to Majdal Bani Fadel, south of the city, and they expelled farmers harvesting olives from the Wadi Ash-Shami area of Asira Al-Qibliya, south of Nablus.

In Abu Falah, Washington Post photographer Heidi Levine was injured when settlers attacked her while she was covering olive picking, and the Washington Post described the assault as coordinated and involving groves on fire and slinging rocks. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said its crews treated a 63-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man who were beaten during the attack in Abu Falah, east of Ramallah, and both were transferred to a hospital.

Levine describes being kicked

Heidi Levine told reporters she was taken to hospital after she said she "got jumped" while covering the olive harvest, and she described being kicked on the ground. Levine said, "I got jumped" and she added that she had been kicked "about 50 times," and she said that if she hadn't been wearing her black jacket and helmet she "probably wouldn't be here at all, because they just kept kicking me again and again."

The Jerusalem Post reported that Palestinian media said Levine was beaten, sustaining fractures and cuts in the violence near Abu Falah, northeast of Ramallah, while Israeli sources had not independently verified this. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in Burqa that four Palestinians were injured when colonists attacked them while they were harvesting olives in the Khallet Ali area, and it said its crews transported the injured to hospital.

Escalation and documented attacks

WAFA said Israeli forces and colonists renewed their attacks in Abu Falah and Turmus Ayya, with Israeli forces firing heavy volleys of tear gas at farmers, causing dozens of cases of suffocation. WAFA also said Israeli forces fired live ammunition and tear gas at residents in an apparent attempt to force farmers off their land in Abu Falah, where large groups of colonists attacked olive pickers and set olive trees on fire.

The Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission said it documented 136 attacks linked to the olive harvest season carried out by Israeli forces and occupiers since the beginning of October, and it said the incidents included beatings, expulsions, intimidation, gunfire, tear gas, and arrests. The BBC said it witnessed about a dozen settlers dressed in black charge down a hill near an outpost to a field where Palestinians and activists were harvesting olives, and it said the settlers torched about a dozen trees and hurled stones from slingshots.
