Runway Overrun in Miami
An Amazon Air cargo plane operated by 21 Air overran a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon, killing at least five people and injuring five others after striking vehicles and catching fire.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said at a news conference that "Five people are dead and five people are injured" following the crash around 2 p.m. local time.
The National Transportation Safety Board said it was sending a team led by NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy to investigate the incident.
The FAA said the Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft departed from Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and that "21 Air Flight 7598 overran the runway after landing at Miami International Airport around 2 p.m. local time on Sunday, Sept. 6."
Rescue, Fire, and Quotes
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said around 200 personnel responded, and it reported that "One person was trapped under one of the involved vehicles" and had to be extricated by specialized MDFR technical rescue personnel.
AP reported that the crash trapped the pilot and copilot in the cockpit and that Miami-Dade Rescue Fire Chief Ray Jadallah said crews found the plane with heavy flames and smoke from a complex engine compartment fire.
Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said in a statement, "We're heartbroken to learn that five people lost their lives in today’s incident at Miami International Airport," and added that the company would cooperate fully with any investigation.
The BBC reported that the FAA ordered all flights grounded as fire crews raced to the smoking crash site, and that the crash left "five people" dead and "five more" seriously injured.B

AP said the crash halted flights at the busy travel hub for much of the afternoon, while FlightAware reported that more than 160 flights were canceled and nearly 325 delayed by late Sunday.
The FAA and Amazon confirmed the incident in separate statements, and the NTSB said it would investigate and hold a news conference in Miami led by Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy.
