Apple Announces Siri AI and iOS 27 at WWDC 2026

Apple announced iOS 27 at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, and the company said the update will include an AI-integrated Siri called Siri AI.

CNET said iOS 27 will be released to the general public in the fall, with developers able to download a beta version now and Apple planning a public beta version in July.

At WWDC, Apple said Siri AI will be available on Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhones like the iPhone 16 Pro later this year, and Apple also announced a dedicated Siri app in iOS 27 that brings conversations together in one place.

The Verge reported Apple calls Siri AI an “entirely new version of Siri” and said it is “more conversational and more capable than the previous version of the smart assistant.”

The Verge said Siri AI will be accessible systemwide and capable of reading what’s onscreen and interacting with your apps, with access on iPhone by swiping down from the Dynamic Island.

USA Today said Apple announced the launch of Siri AI during the keynote at WWDC on Monday, June 8, and described it as an expanded Siri that relies on Apple Intelligence, including an all new independent Siri app.

USA Today also quoted Mike Rockwell, Apple vice president of Siri engineering, saying Siri pulls "current world knowledge" while placing the event on the user’s calendar and setting a reminder notification.

In the same coverage, Craig Federighi said during the keynote that Siri AI was designed “with privacy at every step,” and The Verge added that queries are processed on device or in the cloud via Apple’s Private Cloud Compute.

ZDNET said making the most of Siri AI could come with additional fees, noting that Craig Federighi said Siri AI will get usage caps and that users can pay upgrade fees for more capacity.

ZDNET also reported that some Apple Intelligence features, including image generation, have daily usage limits because they rely on powerful server models, and that increased access is available with most iCloud+ subscription plans.

The Verge said Apple’s updated Siri AI is being rolled out across Apple’s ecosystem with support on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro, and it described a standalone Siri app with saved history synced with iCloud.

CNN added that the new Siri is the biggest indication yet of how Apple is revamping its products as more people use chatbots and AI agents for everyday tasks, quoting Francisco Jeronimo saying “Siri stops being a feature and becomes a new interaction layer for the iPhone, iPad, Mac”.
