Minhas sinks England
Arafat Minhas powered Pakistan to a 302-9 total in Rawalpindi and then took six for 40 as England collapsed to 215 all out for an 87-run defeat in the one-day international tri-series opener. Minhas made 59 off 58 balls with Hasan Nawaz contributing 79, and England’s chase began with a 91-run opening stand before wickets fell in clumps. Harry Brook said, "We were probably a little bit too careful against the spinners," after Pakistan’s spin attack turned a position of 165 for three into 215 all out.
Arafat Minhas finished the match with a direct hit to run out Gus Atkinson, leaving England with 11.2 overs unused. The Guardian described the figures as "astounding figures of six for 40" as Minhas played only his fifth ODI.

Brook and Minhas react
Harry Brook said England were "probably a little bit too careful against the spinners" and argued Pakistan’s total was under par as he reflected on the chase. Arafat Minhas told reporters, "I kept my plans simple," after his 59 off 58 balls helped Pakistan reach 302-9. Minhas then undid England’s reply with his left-arm spin, taking 6-40 including the wicket of Brook for five.
Ben Duckett and Tom Banton gave England a fast start with a 91 in 14.3 overs, but the innings stalled once Pakistan’s spinners took over. Brook added that England could "probably put them under more pressure in stages" as he looked for a different approach against spin.

Tri-series momentum
Pakistan’s second successive win put the home side on track in the tri-series, with the next England match set for Sri Lanka at the same ground on Thursday. The BBC said Pakistan have two wins from two in the tri-series and are already on the brink of the final. England’s winter schedule continues after the Rawalpindi defeat, with the BBC noting that two trips to Australia and Test tours of South Africa and Bangladesh follow.
Sky Sports framed the tri-series as a chance for England’s younger spinners to press claims for the Test tour of South Africa from December 17. Sky Sports also noted that Mason Crane was hoping for his first England appearance in over eight years as England began the ODI tri-series with Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
