British Teenager Mika Stojsavljevic Stuns Australia’s Talia Gibson At Billie Jean King Cup

Seventeen-year-old Mika Stojsavljevic stunned the tennis world by defeating Australia's in-form Talia Gibson in straight sets on her Billie Jean King Cup debut.

Ranked 275th in the world, Stojsavljevic overcame the world number 56 with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 victory in just over two hours.

She clinched the first set in a tie-break after letting a 3-1 lead slip and saved five break points in the penultimate game of the match.

Stojsavljevic said, "It feels amazing. I can't believe it. I can't even remember the last point."

The British team was missing its top four players, including Emma Raducanu and Sonay Kartal.

Harriet Dart fought back from a set down to beat Australia's Kimberly Birrell 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Dart will partner Jodie Burrage in Saturday's live doubles match against Australia's experienced duo.

The winner of the best-of-five tie will advance to the eight-team finals in Shenzhen.

Stojsavljevic had been sitting her GCSE exams when she competed at the WTA event in Nottingham.
