Barco to Stamford Bridge
Chelsea completed the signing of Argentine international Valentín Barco from RC Strasbourg on a long-term deal that keeps him at Stamford Bridge until June 2033.

Dawan Africa said the transfer was officially confirmed on Saturday as Chelsea continued their busy summer rebuild under head coach Xabi Alonso, with Barco putting pen to paper on the contract.
The Daily Star framed the move as Chelsea’s seventh signing of the transfer window, saying Barco joined on a seven-year deal after arriving from sister club Strasbourg.
Chelsea’s official site said Barco will join up with manager Xabi Alonso and his new team-mates later in pre-season after signing a contract until 2033.
The Straits Times added that financial details of the deal were not disclosed as Chelsea signed Barco on a seven-year contract on Sunday.
Numbers, roles, and World Cup
Across coverage, Barco’s age and contract length were consistent, with Goal describing him as the 21-year-old who committed his long-term future to the Blues on a contract until June 2033.
The Daily Star said the 22-year-old was part of the Argentina squad that reached the World Cup final and was involved in an angry exchange with Jude Bellingham for his exuberant celebrations in front of England players during the semi-final.
Goal reported that Barco was named in Argentina’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and featured in their 3-1 group-stage win over Jordan, and it also said he had already earned five international caps.
Dawan Africa said Barco made 43 appearances in all competitions for Strasbourg and contributed 12 goals and assists combined, while the Chelsea official site said he currently has five international appearances to his name.
The Daily Star also said Barco is capable of operating at both left-back and in midfield, and it noted he had a brief spell in the Premier League previously with Brighton three seasons ago.

Dawan Africa described Strasbourg, like Chelsea, as owned by BlueCo and said Barco’s development in Ligue 1 is part of the wider multi-club project.
The Daily Star said Barco becomes the second player to join the Blues from the Ligue 1 club this window after Emmanuel Emegha, and it listed other arrivals including Danny Welbeck, Maxence Lacroix, and Morgan Rogers.
The Daily Star also reported that Alonso’s side, who finished 10th in the Premier League last season, begin the new campaign at Fulham on August 24.
Goal added that Barco is expected to link up with his new team-mates and manager Xabi Alonso later in the pre-season schedule as Chelsea continue their preparations for the upcoming Premier League season.
