Toyota’s ¥1bn token bond

Toyota Finance opened applications for a ¥1 billion ($6.76 million) tokenized bond that pays 1.72% annually and can be bought through Toyota Wallet without opening a securities account. Toyota Financial Services, Toyota Finance, SMBC Group and BOOSTRY said Tuesday that the one year public security token bond will be issued through a self offering by Toyota Finance, the first such security token bond structure used by the Toyota Group.

The bond, formally called the Toyota Finance Second Security Token Bond and branded as the “TOYOTA Wallet Tsumugu Bond,” will be managed using blockchain infrastructure provided by Japanese security token company BOOSTRY. Applications start at ¥100,000 and opened Tuesday through a dedicated page on Toyota Finance’s website, with the total issuance set at ¥1 billion and applications handled through a lottery process.

Perks, limits, and use

Toyota Finance’s filing says buyers cannot resell the bond or pledge it as collateral, and the only early exit is a buyback by the issuer. The filing also describes the bond as a ¥1,000 million issue paying a fixed 1.720% a year, with ownership records sitting on ibet for Fin, ablockchain ledger built by BOOSTRY.

Retail buyers can earn Fuji Speedway tickets and test-drive experiences, including a lottery that hands 40 buyers family tickets to two events at Fuji Speedway and two buyers a Lexus test drive paired with a hotel stay. Toyota Finance said the offering is the fifth supplement under a ¥1.5 trillion shelf registration that runs to March 2027, against which Toyota Finance has now drawn roughly ¥330.1 billion, and after ¥75 million in issuance costs it nets ¥925 million earmarked for installment credit customers by the end of December 2026.
