Trump replaces concerts
President Donald Trump moved to headline the Great American State Fair on the National Mall after multiple musical performers withdrew from the Freedom 250-organised concerts tied to the country’s 250th anniversary.
“Trump attacks artists dropping out of US Freedom 250 concert and mulls appearing himself Multiple performers booked for a festival celebrating America's 250th birthday have dropped out, many saying they were misled about the political affiliation of the event”
Freedom 250 spokesperson Danielle Alvarez told CNN that “President Trump will personally kick off this historic celebration on Wednesday, June 24 in an opening ceremony celebrating America’s 250th birthday,” as the concert series was scheduled for June 25 through July 10 on the National Mall in Washington, DC.

Trump said on Truth Social he was considering cancelling the concerts and replacing them with a speech and rally, calling himself “the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World” and saying he gets “much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime.”
The withdrawals included the Commodores, Martina McBride, Morris Day and the Time, Poison frontman Bret Michaels, and rapper Young MC, while Vanilla Ice and Flo Rida were still expected to appear in the lineup described by CNN.
Artists cite misled politics
Bret Michaels said the event had “evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of,” and he also cited “threats that are completely unfounded and unforgivable” as he stepped away from performing.
Young MC said in a statement that “The artists were never told about any political involvement with the event,” framing the cancellations as a response to the event’s political associations rather than the music itself.

Martina McBride told fans she was “presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event but that turned out to be misleading,” and the BBC reported Trump was mulling a “major speech” after calling the artists who dropped out “third rate.”
The BBC also described Freedom 250 as non-partisan while noting it was launched last year by the Trump administration and that Trump appointed its CEO, as multiple performers said they were misled about the event’s political affiliation.
What happens next
With the Freedom 250 concert lineup disrupted, Trump floated an “AMERICA IS BACK Rally” at “Wednesday, Washington, D.C., same time, same location,” and he said he was ordering his Representatives to look at the feasibility of doing it.
“An upcoming celebration of America's 250th anniversary, "The Great American State Fair," recently had several musical guests back out partly over the event's ties to President Donald Trump”
Freedom 250 had billed the broader fair as a 16-day event from June 25 to July 10 on the National Mall, and Danielle Alvarez told CNN that Trump would personally kick off the celebration on Wednesday, June 24.
The BBC reported that Freedom 250 said it was a nonprofit “dedicated to uniting Americans around the nation's 250th anniversary,” while the White House backed other 250th-anniversary events including a UFC fight on its South Lawn and a Grand Prix race in the US capital in August.
As the lineup continued to shift, CNN reported that Vanilla Ice said “I’m super honored to do this concert” while Freedom 250 had yet to announce lineup changes, leaving the future of the concerts and any rally plan tied to Trump’s next steps.
