Donald Trump Unveils US Space Force Uniform Inspired by Starship Troopers Nazi Aesthetics

President Donald Trump shared on Truth Social an image generated with artificial intelligence showing a proposed new uniform for the United States Space Force, and the design was described as “inspired by the discipline and functionality of the Starship Trooper uniform” and “modernised for the guardians of the space domain.”

The proposed outfit is depicted with a gray and black suit, a high collar, leather boots, a belt, and a military cap, and social media users compared it to uniforms of the SS (Schutzstaffel) and to those of the Galactic Empire in Star Wars.

The controversy is tied to Starship Troopers’ director Paul Verhoeven, who explained that the film deliberately uses elements of Nazi propaganda aesthetics and clothing as part of an “ironic” vision of a “fascist utopia.”

Verhoeven said, “I decided to make a movie about fascists who aren’t aware of their fascism,” and he also described the project as being “about American politics,” according to The Guardian and as quoted by multiple outlets.

Trump’s post also came alongside other Truth Social activity, including sharing a photo of the moon with the phrase “la luna es nuestra” and a small American flag, as CiberCuba reported.C

EL PAÍS reported that Verhoeven said the parallels with the Trump Administration were “impossible to deny,” quoting his statement to Digital Spy that “The screenwriter (Edward Neumeier) and I were aware that there were some elements of American society that could lead to a certain kind of fascism.”

In the same framing, EL PAÍS said Verhoeven’s intention was to make a satire of fascism, describing Starship Troopers as a militarized society and noting that the film presents a dystopian world where citizens only acquire rights as they progress in their military career.

Gizmodo described the uniform mockup as “inspired by the discipline and functionality of the Starship Trooper uniform,” and it said the 1997 film was intended to mock fascism through its depiction of the United Citizen Federation and troops in Nazi-inspired military uniforms.

The Independent quoted social media reactions that compared the design to “the evil bad guys from Star Wars,” and it also included menswear writer Derek Guy’s line that “This is the kind of design costume designers make to tell you who are the bad guys in a space movie.”T

LBC reported that Verhoeven had told The Guardian in a 2022 interview, “I decided to make a movie about fascists who aren’t aware of their fascism,” and it repeated that the uniform description claimed it was “modernised for the guardians of the space domain.”

CiberCuba placed the uniform episode within a broader expansion of Trump’s space agenda, saying that at the end of August he signed an executive order at the Centro Espacial Johnson in Houston to create the Academia Espacial de Estados Unidos.

The same CiberCuba account said the Space Force clarified through sources cited by Task & Purpose that the image was not an official design and that the service dress uniform is still in development, while Trump did not specify whether it was final or preliminary.C
