DTCC launched tokenization service on Canton Network and Besu private blockchain for 34 securities. Twenty institutions signed up to participate in tokenization.

DTCC tokenizes 34 securities

The Depository Trust Company (DTC), a subsidiary of the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), launched its tokenization service on October 28, 2026, enabling eligible financial institutions to convert securities held in its custody into blockchain-based tokens. DTCC said the service went live with 20 participating firms signed up and 34 securities eligible for tokenization, and the eligible assets represent approximately $30 trillion in market value. DTCC connected the initial phase to the Canton Network and DTCC’s private blockchain built on Besu, an Ethereum client, and it positioned the launch as bringing tokenized representations of US stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and Treasury securities into established financial market infrastructure.

DTCC said the tokens represent securities already held in DTC custody rather than synthetic instruments that merely track the prices of stocks or bonds, and it said the tokenized representations preserve ownership rights, investor protections, and economic entitlements. DTCC also said the service separates the conversion of securities into tokens from the transfer of already-tokenized assets, with eligible firms able to submit conversion requests during business hours and a maximum processing target of 15 minutes.

Canton Strategic tokenized CNTN

Canton Strategic Holdings, a Nasdaq-listed company formerly known as biotechnology firm Tharimmune, announced plans to tokenize its common shares on the Canton Network with trading expected to begin as soon as Nov. 2.

Canton Strategic Holdings said it partnered with TSV LLC, a trading venue for tokenized securities, and Fairmint, a US Securities and Exchange Commission-registered transfer agent, to bring its shares onto the blockchain.

The plan described tokenized shares as carrying the same shareholder rights as the company’s Nasdaq-listed stock, and it said transactions would settle immediately on the Canton Network.

Canton Strategic Holdings said it engaged Fairmint to tokenize its stock, and Fairmint TA LLC, its SEC-registered subsidiary, would issue the shares, maintain ownership records, and administer transfer compliance.

The announcement also tied the effort to the SEC’s September innovation exemption, which the companies said provides a regulatory path for trading tokenized US stocks on domestic platforms.

24/7 transfer, 2027 expansion

DTCC said token transfers between accounts registered in DTC can occur 24/7, while DTCC described conversion as taking place during trading hours with a maximum processing target of 15 minutes. DTCC said it plans to onboard additional participants over time and to add more blockchain networks in 2027, including Stellar and Circle’s Arc, as it expands its work with institutional blockchain applications. DTCC CEO Frank La Salla said in an official statement that the launch was "Harnessing a culmination of years of effort to bring tokenized securities into a regulatory framework backed by reliable market infrastructure," and DTCC’s Global Head of Digital Assets Nadine Chakar said the launch demonstrated "ongoing industry collaboration, regulatory engagement, and a disciplined approach to innovation."

Canton Strategic Holdings said TSV intends to bring its tokenized shares into an automated market maker using the Tradecraft protocol on the Canton Network, with 24/7 trading availability and atomic settlement. TSV said it wanted its first listing to set the standard, and TSV CEO Ali Abrar said, "Using the Tradecraft protocol, approved participants can provide liquidity and trade at any hour, with every trade settling atomically on the Canton Network."
