Carse, a 31-year-old Durham seamer, was dropped for the second Test at Lord's after he was briefly arrested following an incident outside a Derby nightclub on 22 August, and Derbyshire police said they are looking into allegations of assault.

Carse's replacement is 23-year-old Sonny Baker, who has retained his place in England's 15-man party, while Surrey's Matthew Fisher has been dropped from an otherwise unchanged England squad.

England are seeking to complete a series clean-sweep over Pakistan after winning by an innings and 103 runs at Headingley and then by 194 runs at Lord's last week.

The BBC also noted that England may consider resting seamers Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue, even though they are named in the Test squad for the Edgbaston finale.B

Derbyshire Police are investigating allegations of assault against Carse, who was briefly arrested outside a Derby nightclub on August 22, and the Cricket Regulator initiated a probe into the incident.

Sky Sports said Carse was withdrawn from the squad for the second Test after the regulator began its probe, and that left-armer Sonny Baker retained his place as Carse's replacement.

At Lord's last week, England captain Joe Root described himself as “hacked off” by the growing number of alcohol-rated stories around the team, adding, “I’ve spoken to Brydon and when I first found out my first concern was him as a person.”

Root said, “I don’t think I’m speaking out of turn in saying he’s very upset, very apologetic and understands his actions,” while the Bournemouth Echo reported Carse was seen in a video clip in handcuffs and was arrested then de-arrested after agreeing to leave.B

The Bournemouth Echo also said Carse was left out of Durham’s match against Northamptonshire, which started on Wednesday, due to “pre-arranged workload management” agreed with the England and Wales Cricket Board.B

Pakistan made wholesale changes ahead of the Edgbaston Test, dropping seven players and calling up five uncapped players, while releasing head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and replacing him with white-ball coach Mike Hesson.

Sky Sports reported that Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Aamir Jamal, Muhammad Awais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad were among those sent home, and that Sarfaraz Ahmed and Umar Gul were also released.

The BBC said Pakistan’s changes included dropping seven players and releasing their head coach prior to the Edgbaston Test, with Sarfaraz Ahmed replaced by Mike Hesson.B
