Fairphone enters US
Fairphone has launched the Fairphone Gen 6+ in the United States for $649, marking the first time the company has sold its repairable Android phones directly in the US.
“Fairphone, the maker of the most repairable smartphones, is finally entering the US market, starting with a new $649 product.”
The Gen 6+ upgrades from a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset to a Gen 4, and it increases RAM by moving to 12 GB from 8 GB.

The phone is built around repairability, including a 4,415 mAh removable battery and 12 user-replaceable parts that can be swapped using a Torx T5 screw tool.
Fairphone says the device runs Android 16 out of the box and is supported with software updates through 2033, while the company also offers a five-year U.S. warranty for parts users cannot fix.
For connectivity, the Gen 6+ is compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile networks, and it supports microSD storage up to 2TB.
Parts, pricing, and warranty
Fairphone positions the Gen 6+ as a phone you can repair yourself, with a design that includes 12 “easily replaceable” parts such as the 4,415mAh battery and cameras, and it uses a single Torx T5 screwdriver.
WIRED reports that “A replacement screen from Fairphone costs just $90,” and it also lists a new USB-C port at $20 and a fresh battery at $40.

Android Authority says the Gen 6 Plus is officially available in the US via Fairphone.com and Amazon, and it notes that users can replace up to 12 parts with a single screwdriver.
The phone’s repairability is paired with long-term support, as How-To Geek says “expect software updates until 2033,” and it adds that Fairphone offers a five-year U.S. warranty for parts users can’t fix.
For users who want to keep the device running, the Gen 6+ includes a microSD card slot to add up to 2TB of storage, and it ships with Android 16 plus a physical switch for a minimalist mode.
Duopoly pressure and next steps
Fairphone’s US push arrives as the company frames the market as constrained, with WIRED quoting CEO Raymond van Eck saying, “If you look to the US market, it’s heavily duopolistic with very little real consumer choice.”

TechCrunch adds that the Fairphone 6+ is now available in the U.S. starting at $649 and that it will support T-Mobile and AT&T at launch, with the company saying it is the first time people in the U.S. can buy the phones directly without modifications.
The company also ties the Gen 6+ to its broader sustainability and repair agenda, including a claim from TechCrunch that it reduced the carbon footprint to 30 kg of CO2e for each Fairphone 6+ manufactured.
Beyond the phone, Fairphone is also planning its next modular audio product, with FoneArena saying Fairphone announced the Fairbuds 2 and that they are planned for Q4.
In the US, the Gen 6+ is sold unlocked through Fairphone’s website and Amazon, and it comes in Cobalt Blue, Forest Green, and Horizon Black while promising spare parts availability through 2033.
