G20 Sets Clear Pathways
G20 finance ministers and central bank governors met in Asheville, North Carolina on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 and, in a Chair’s statement, called for clearer regulatory pathways to support digital asset innovation while preserving financial stability.
“The commitment came in the Chair’s statement following a two-day meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors in Asheville, North Carolina”
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who leads the G20 finance track this year, said the group would pursue supervisory frameworks that support “sound digital financial and digital asset innovation.”

The G20 stopped short of setting new binding rules for stablecoins and instead looked to the Financial Stability Board for work on cross-border effects and improving stablecoin data.
The commitment also reaffirmed the G20 roadmap for cross-border payments and encouraged countries to extend large-value payment-system operating hours.
Stablecoins in Focus
Stablecoins received special attention as the G20 awaited a forthcoming Financial Stability Board report on global stablecoin arrangements and their impact on cross-border transactions, along with work examining stablecoin data sources and potential data gaps.
The G20 statement explicitly did not create a common licensing regime or equivalent stablecoin regulatory framework for member jurisdictions, leaving detailed regulation to national authorities.

In the US, the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act had “yet to clear the Senate,” with a procedural vote scheduled for Sept. 15.
The G20 also reaffirmed support for the use of the harmonized ISO 20022 data model and cross-border transmission of financial-services data, provided those measures align with domestic laws and data-security requirements.
Next Meetings and Local Moves
The next G20 Finance Track meeting was slated for October 15 in Bangkok, and the final US G20 presidency event was the 2026 G20 Leaders’ Summit in Miami on December 14 and 15.
“The next G20 Finance Track meeting of finance ministers & central bank governors is slated to take place on October 15 in Bangkok”
The G20 statement emphasized that it was advancing “responsible and effective” frameworks that establish “clear pathways” for digital asset innovation, while also reaffirming commitments to the FATF and encouraging jurisdictions with important virtual asset activity to implement FATF standards.
Outside the G20 process, FF News said UB Ignite and OKX Bahamas partnered to launch a fintech incubator and pitch competition called “The Bullpen,” with 114 applicants narrowed to 27 incubator participants and five finalists selected to pitch on Thursday, August 27.
FF News reported that the event would be held at the University of The Bahamas (UB) Performing Arts Centre and that OKX Bahamas Business Strategy and Operations Director Deno Cartwright said, “The Bullpen is about creating a platform where Bahamian students and emerging entrepreneurs can move from having an idea to demonstrating its potential.”
