Honda Prologue Ends
Honda will end the commercial run of its Honda Prologue in the United States and stop production in Mexico by the end of the 2026 model year, with sales continuing into early 2027 based on stock in the United States.

Autocosmos says the decision follows a 48.6% drop in its sales during the first half of this year and the end of the federal tax credit for electric vehicles, alongside 25% tariffs on exports of vehicles manufactured in Mexico.
In the first half of 2026, Autocosmos reports the Honda Prologue delivered 8,407 units to the U.S. market, an average of about 1,400 units per month.
TechCrunch says the company confirmed to it that the Prologue is being removed as the last all-electric vehicle from the automaker’s U.S. portfolio, framing the move as part of a broader EV retreat from the U.S. market.
TechCrunch adds that the end of the $7,500 federal tax credit had an outsized effect on EV sales in the United States.
Numbers, Credits, Tariffs
Business Insider links the pressure on American EVs to the federal $7,500 tax credit for US-made EVs ending in September 2025, saying deliveries dropped 27% in the first quarter of 2026.
Business Insider also ties the slowdown to a 46% plunge in EV sales in the final quarter of 2025 and notes that by the end of 2025 Ford ended production of the F-150 Lightning, Nissan axed the Ariya, Acura stopped building the ZDX, and Volkswagen paused the ID. Buzz until 2027.
TechCrunch says EV sales were 247,226 in the second quarter, about 5.8% of the total market, while also stating that EV sales grew between the first and second quarters of 2026 but remained down from the same period last year.
Quartz en Français reports that Honda told dealers the 2026 model year will be the last for the Prologue SUV, and it quotes Lance Woelfer, vice president of automobile sales for American Honda Motor Co., saying the company will not sever ties immediately with transactions planned through early 2027 as remaining stock is sold.
Quartz en Français further says the Prologue was built for Honda by General Motors at a plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, and it reports annual sales reached about 40,000 units.
What Honda Will Do
Honda’s shift away from BEVs in the U.S. leaves it without a battery-electric vehicle available in the United States, and Autocosmos says the outlook is similar for Acura, which had previously withdrawn the ZDX.

Autocosmos says Honda remains without a representative in this segment while it works on developing a new generation of its own electric models, whose launch date has not yet been confirmed.
Quartz en Français reports Woelfer telling Bloomberg that for the moment, the market's priority is a balance between ICE and hybrid, and it says Honda aims for a lineup of 15 new hybrid vehicles arriving by March 2030.
TechCrunch describes Honda’s broader EV overhaul as including the cancellation of three EVs planned for the U.S. market and says the company blamed U.S. tariffs and Chinese competition for stopping development of the Acura RDX, Honda O sedan and SUV in March 2026.
MotorTrend quotes Honda saying, “Sales will continue through 2027 based on expected inventory,” and adds that Prologue customers will continue to receive full support through the dealer network including service, parts, and warranty coverage.
