Mehr News Agency reported that a suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the main gate of Mengal's residence, triggering a blast that destroyed part of the compound, and it said the explosion was followed by a gun battle lasting more than three hours.

Mehr News Agency added that officials said five attackers, including suicide bombers, were killed during the operation, and it reported that the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack.

Alongside the condemnation, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed the need to strengthen cooperation and coordination among regional countries to effectively and continuously combat terrorism, particularly through identifying, prosecuting, and punishing perpetrators, organizers, supporters, and financiers of terrorist acts.

Numbers and responsibility

Mehr News Agency put the casualties at "At least 17 people, including police personnel and security guards, were killed and around 30 others injured" in the attack on Wednesday in Khuzdar, while also reporting that Mengal survived and that the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility.

The same Mehr News Agency account described the sequence as a suicide bomber attack followed by a gun battle lasting more than three hours, with attackers and security forces exchanging heavy fire using rocket launchers, grenades, and other weapons.

ISNA News Agency also said Baghaei reiterated Iran’s stance in condemning terrorism and extremism and emphasized the urgent need to strengthen cooperation and coordination among regional countries to counter terrorism effectively and continuously.

Pakistan vows to fight

In addition to Iran’s condemnation, the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) report carried a statement that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif affirmed his government’s determination to continue the war on terrorism until the last militant is eliminated.

Saba said Sharif, chairing a meeting of the High Security Committee in the Balochistan region’s capital Quetta, stated that the recent wave of attacks across the province, which killed members of security forces and civilians, "will not weaken the state's resolve to confront terrorism."

Saba also noted that militants’ attacks in Pakistan’s border areas are escalating, with Islamabad accusing that they originate from Afghan territory, while Kabul authorities consistently deny the accusation.

Against that backdrop, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stressed that identifying, pursuing, and punishing those responsible for terrorist acts—"the organizers, supporters, and financiers"—are among the most important prerequisites for an effective fight against terrorism in the region.
