IRGC Warns Attacks on Iranian Tankers Would Trigger Heavy Assault on US Bases

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that any attack on Iranian commercial or oil tankers would trigger a “heavy assault” against US positions and hostile vessels in the region, according to the Fars news agency.

The IRGC Aerospace Force commander Majid Mousavi said missiles and drones are “locked onto the enemy” and awaiting orders to launch.

The UK Defense Ministry said it is deploying a Royal Navy warship to the Middle East in preparation for a possible multinational mission to protect commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, with the HMS Dragon to “pre-position” in the region.

The Türkiye Today report tied the escalation to US and Israel strikes against Iran on Feb. 28, which it said triggered retaliation from Tehran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and it said a ceasefire took effect April 8 through Pakistani mediation.

It added that since April 13 the US has enforced a naval blockade targeting Iranian maritime traffic in the waterway, and that Trump said the US military will temporarily pause “Project Freedom” while the blockade remains “in full force and effect.”

Middle East News said Press TV quoted an Iranian security source warning that the continuation of the 'American naval piracy' will soon be met with an unprecedented military action, and it described the blockade as “illegal” in the Strait of Hormuz.

The same report said the security source argued that Iranian self-restraint was aimed at giving diplomacy a chance and allowing President Trump “to pull the United States out of the current quagmire it finds itself in.”

It also said Press TV, citing a senior security official in Iran, reported that Iran’s military leadership has drawn up plans for a military operation described as unprecedented, while emphasizing that Iran’s patience is not unlimited.

The report further said U.S. President Donald Trump was considering resuming airstrikes as an escalation option, and it added that sources said Trump had not issued orders to carry out any military action as of Tuesday evening.

In the IRGC Navy Command statement, it said: “Warning! Any attack on Iranian tankers and commercial vessels will result in a heavy attack against one of the American centers in the region and enemy ships,” and it framed the warning around safeguarding maritime interests and safe passage for Iran’s commercial fleet.

PressTV said IRGC naval forces repelled aggressive maneuvers by US destroyers that attempted to challenge Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz.

It also said that following US strikes on Iranian ships and tankers near Jask, the IRGC Navy launched a precise and extensive operation involving anti-ship ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and high-explosive drones, inflicting significant damage and forcing US vessels to flee the area.

The report added that the IRGC Navy emphasized that the only safe corridors for transit through the Strait of Hormuz are those designated by the Islamic Republic, with any deviation or hostile move met by a firm and decisive confrontation.
