Ceasefire, then strikes
Israeli airstrikes in Gaza killed five people on Saturday, including the Northern Gaza Province police chief Abdul Nasser Mohammed al-Muqaddama, according to the interior ministry affiliated with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The strikes targeted the Sheikh Radwan area north of Gaza City, where the Israeli army said al-Muqaddama belonged to Hamas's armed wing, while medics also reported a Palestinian medic was killed in the Nuseirat refugee camp.
In a separate report, the Interior Ministry in the enclave said Brig. Gen. Abdul Nasser Mohammed al-Maqdama, 54, was killed after being targeted by Israeli aircraft in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood northwest of Gaza City, and Gaza Civil Defense said a drone fired a missile at him as he rode a bicycle.
Palestinian media outlets said Israeli airstrikes also killed two people inside a house in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, raising Saturday's death toll to at least six, and they added that a police officer wounded in an Israeli airstrike last week died on Saturday of his wounds.
Hamas said targeting the police and their offices aims to spread chaos and lawlessness in the enclave and constitutes a violation of the ceasefire agreement which came into effect in October, while health officials in Gaza said Israeli airstrikes had killed more than 1,180 Palestinians, most of them civilians, since the ceasefire began.
Hamas, mediators, and pressure
Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya called on the leaders of countries mediating and guaranteeing the Gaza ceasefire to take immediate action to stop what he described as Israel’s ongoing violations of the agreement and compel it to fulfill its commitments.
In a message addressed to the mediators, al-Hayya urged them to exert “the necessary pressure” to force Israel to halt its violations and implement the terms of the signed agreements.
Palestinian officials warned that Gaza’s emergency response system is rapidly deteriorating, with Raed al-Dahshan, director of Civil Defense in Gaza, saying emergency response capacity in Gaza Governorate has fallen to just 25 percent because of the closure of one Civil Defense center, broken emergency vehicles, and severe shortages of equipment and spare parts.
Al-Dahshan said crews have at times been forced to work “with their bare hands” because of equipment shortages, and he warned that rescue teams are increasingly unable to respond to simultaneous emergencies and that delays significantly reduce civilians’ chances of survival.
He also said more than 140 Civil Defense personnel have been killed since the beginning of the Israeli assault, and he called on international organizations and the countries guaranteeing the ceasefire agreement to provide urgently needed vehicles, equipment, and protective gear.
Humanitarian stakes and governance
As Israeli attacks continued despite the ceasefire, Gaza’s Health Ministry said Israeli violations have killed 1,191 Palestinians and wounded 3,853 since October 2025, while Anadolu reported that two Palestinians were killed and at least 14 injured Saturday during several Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip.

Anadolu said the Gaza Interior Ministry stated Abdul Nasser Mohammed al-Maqadma, 54, was killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood northwest of Gaza City, and it also cited Gaza’s Health Ministry figures for deaths and injuries since October 2025.
On the humanitarian front, France Palestine Solidarité reported that Israel issued evacuation orders for several areas of Gaza before bombing, killing at least two people, and it quoted journalist Ibrahim al-Khalili saying, "What is particularly alarming is that these warnings were followed by attacks on the very areas from which the residents had received the order to flee."
The same report said a strike on Gaza City triggered a massive fire that civil defense teams are still trying to extinguish, and it described Israeli airstrikes destroying homes in the Bureij and Jabalia refugee camps, as well as in the Zeitoun and Tal al-Hawa neighborhoods in Gaza City.
Meanwhile, i24NEWS reported that Egypt is working with the United States and several regional partners to accelerate the deployment of an International Stabilization Force (ISF) in the Gaza Strip, with the objective of preventing the collapse of the ceasefire and preparing the establishment of postwar governance, conditioned on the disarmament of Hamas as provided by the ceasefire agreement reached with Israel in October last year.
