Hezbollah FPV Drones Kill One Israeli Soldier, Wound Six in Southern Lebanon

Hezbollah’s FPV drones struck Israeli forces in southern Lebanon after a tank-side unit heard a faint buzzing, and the live transmission ended when the drone exploded nearby, killing one soldier and wounding six others.

The incident described in the report centers on an FPV drone flying over a zone controlled by the Israeli army, following an Israeli soldier near a Merkava tank in the Nimr Al-Jamal position opposite the Lebanese border town of Alma al-Shaab, with the one minute video dated Friday May 5.

In parallel, L’Orient-Le Jour says Israel is preparing a wide-scale ground invasion of Lebanon, citing Axios and describing strikes on Lebanon since March 2 that have killed at least 773 people, while Israel says it has carried out 1,100 strikes and eliminated 15 senior Hezbollah commanders.

L’Orient-Le Jour also reports that Guterres made a surprise visit to Beirut and called for a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel, while Israeli authorities continue to pressure Beirut to disarm Hezbollah and consider strikes on civilian infrastructure.

In the same broader context, L’Orient Today reports that the Health Ministry recorded 48 additional deaths and 97 injuries in Israeli strikes over the past 24 hours, as Israeli drone strikes targeted a vehicle in Khalde on the highway linking Saida to Beirut.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that “Any attack on Beirut will have serious consequences and will lead to the full resumption of the war,” and said Iran and its armed forces remain on alert.

In the field, Hezbollah claimed a fifth attack on Israeli army near Beaufort Castle, saying it launched an exploding drone at 8:15 p.m. against Israeli soldiers positioned inside a house near Beaufort Castle, south of Nabatieh.

The same report quotes a senior Israeli official saying the operation would be what “we did in Gaza,” referring to the destruction of buildings that Israel accuses Hezbollah of using to store weapons and launch attacks, while an American official says “The Israelis must do what they have to do to stop Hezbollah’s fire.”

L’Orient Today frames the diplomatic track around simultaneous cease-fire demands, reporting Araghchi’s position that “the end of the war and a cease-fire must be achieved simultaneously on all fronts of the resistance, including in Lebanon.”

On the ground, Hezbollah’s military statements described operations around Shaqif Castle, including artillery shells at 17:20 on Tuesday evening and a rocket salvo at 18:00, as the group said the strikes came in response to Israeli violations of the ceasefire and ongoing attacks on villages and towns in southern Lebanon.

Room claimed that over more than five days the “Israeli” enemy launched intense airstrikes and heavy artillery attacks against Yohmor Al-Shaqif and surrounding villages in an effort to seize the area and occupy the castle, while the Resistance said it prevented forces from reaching their objective.
