In parallel, Anadolu Ajansı said two Syrians were killed in an Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon despite a temporary ceasefire, with the state news agency NNA saying the attack targeted a motorcycle on a road between Qlaileh and Deir Qanoun in Tyre.

Anadolu Ajansı added that Lebanese media reported Israeli warplanes carried out nine airstrikes targeting various areas in southern Lebanon since dawn, while the Israeli army continued daily strikes and exchanged fire with Hezbollah despite the ceasefire.

The same Anadolu Ajansı report said the US is again hosting peace talks between the two countries on May 14-15 in Washington, as the fighting continued.

Civil defense under threat

Ali Safiuddin, head of the Lebanese Civil Defence in Tyre, told Al Jazeera, “We’re under threat every second, every day,” and he said, “We ask ourselves if we’re going to survive or if we’re going to die.”

Al Jazeera also quoted a war surgeon and humanitarian worker, Dr Tahir Mohammed, saying he saw “the same policy of targeting healthcare workers in Lebanon … it’s consistent,” and he added, “They have no care for life.”

Anadolu Ajansı said NNA reported civil defense teams were working to recover the bodies of the two victims in coordination with the Lebanese army after the drone strike on the motorcycle between Qlaileh and Deir Qanoun.

The Anadolu Ajansı report said the attack came as the ceasefire was in place since April 17 and was later extended to mid-May, while Israeli warplanes continued daily strikes in Lebanon and exchange fire with Hezbollah.

Al Jazeera’s account tied the latest deaths to raids on health authority points in Qalawiya and Tibnin, describing the targeting as violations of international laws and humanitarian norms.

Numbers, displacement, talks

Al Jazeera said the Lebanese Health Ministry recorded 2,846 people killed across the country since March 2, when Israeli forces began a new military operation, and it said the United Nations reported at least 103 Lebanese medical workers killed and 230 injured in more than 130 Israeli strikes.

Al Jazeera also reported that Israeli attacks have displaced more than 1.2 million Lebanese people since March 2, and it said that despite a ceasefire that went into effect on April 16, attacks have only increased.

Anadolu Ajansı said Israel’s attacks on Lebanon since March 2 have killed more than 2,700 people and displaced over 1 million, and it said Israel maintains a so-called “buffer zone” on Lebanese territory.

Anadolu Ajansı added that the US is again hosting peace talks between the two countries on May 14-15 in Washington, framing the negotiations as the fighting continued.

Together, the two reports placed the immediate battlefield toll and displacement figures alongside the scheduled talks in Washington, with the ceasefire described as temporary and repeatedly violated.
