Ceasefire death toll rises

Israeli attacks on Gaza have killed more than 1,000 Palestinians since a U.S.-brokered ceasefire in October 2025, with an Israeli strike on a vehicle in Gaza City killing at least three Palestinians, according to Al Jazeera.

Cairo — Reuters: The Health Ministry in Gaza said on Thursday that the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli fire in the Gaza Strip has surpassed 1,000 since the ceasefire brokered by the United States last October, as reports said at least three people were killed in the latest strikes

Middle East Eye reported that the enclave's health ministry said the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli fire in Gaza reached more than 1,000 since the October 2025 truce, and it said including the latest incident the number was 1,009.

Middle East Eye said medics reported an Israeli strike hit a vehicle on the main Omar al-Mokhtar road in Gaza City, killing three, and it said the Israeli military said it targeted Hamas fighters.

NPR reported that the Gaza Health Ministry said Israeli operations had killed 1,005 Palestinians since a ceasefire was reached between Israel and the militant group Hamas last October, and it said the most recent deaths were recorded after Israeli drone strikes in central Gaza and Gaza City.

Targets, truce push, claims

Democracy Now! said that in Gaza at least two Palestinians were killed and another left wounded after Israel bombed the southern Gaza Strip, and it said the attack targeted al-Mawasi, a crowded tent camp that Israel had designated as a so-called humanitarian zone.

Democracy Now! also said the latest killings bring the number of deaths since Israel agreed to a U.S.-brokered so-called “ceasefire deal” with Hamas in October to more than 1,000.

Middle East Eye said violence continued despite a new truce push by mediators, and it described medics reporting that an Israeli strike hit a vehicle on the main Omar al-Mokhtar road in Gaza City, killing three.

Middle East Eye reported that the Israeli military said it targeted Hamas fighters, and it added that later on Thursday Israeli forces operating near the central area of Gaza killed one person, medics said.

NPR said the Israeli military acknowledged carrying out a strike in Khan Younis and said the target was a "terrorist," while it said families at the hospital said the strike targeted a group of people near the beach in the sprawling tent camp of Muwasi.

What comes next

In Gaza, the death toll since the ceasefire has continued to be tracked by health authorities, with NPR saying the Gaza Health Ministry reported 1,005 Palestinians killed since last October and it said the enclave has seen near-daily strikes, as well as shelling and gunfire along the boundary dividing Gaza into Israeli and Palestinian-controlled zones.

NPR said Israel has expanded the amount of territory it controls inside the strip and that both sides have accused the other of violating the ceasefire.

Akhbar Al-Khaleej, citing Reuters, said the Health Ministry in Gaza reported the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli fire had surpassed 1,000 since the ceasefire brokered by the United States last October, and it said the Health Ministry said the number killed since the ceasefire brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump in October 2025 had reached 1,008.

Akhbar Al-Khaleej added that two sources close to the talks told Reuters that Nikolai Mladenov, described as the envoy to the Trump-formed Gaza Peace Council, held talks this week in Cairo with mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey after Hamas and other Palestinian factions submitted their response to what they called the roadmap proposed by Trump.

Akhbar Al-Khaleej reported that a Hamas official told Reuters the document is under study, and it said Israel and Hamas remained at an impasse over how to move forward to the next phase of Trump's plan for Gaza, which includes disarming Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
