Ceasefire, then strikes
Israeli military operations continued in Gaza despite a ceasefire that had officially remained in effect since October 10, 2025, with the Palestine Chronicle reporting that eight Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours.
“An Israeli drone attack and gunfire in Gaza have killed at least five people, including a nine-year-old girl, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry”
The New Indian Express said an Israeli attack in Gaza on Sunday killed at least six Palestinians, including a 9-year-old girl, and wounded over a dozen others, citing local health officials.

In Gaza City’s Sabra neighborhood, the New Indian Express reported a drone strike on a blacksmith shop killed at least four Palestinians, with casualties taken to Shifa hospital.
The New Indian Express also reported that Palestinians received an evacuation order from the military following the first strikes, and roughly an hour later intense airstrikes targeted the same blacksmith shop.
Al Jazeera reported that an Israeli drone attack and gunfire killed at least five people, including a nine-year-old girl, and said Tala Abu Matar died when Israeli gunfire targeted an encampment on the eastern side of the Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza.
Competing death tolls
The Palestine Chronicle put the overall death toll from Israel’s military campaign at 73,231 and said Gaza’s Health Ministry reported 32 wounded Palestinians during the same period, while also stating that Israeli attacks since the ceasefire have killed 1,108 Palestinians and injured another 3,578.
Al Jazeera said Israel has continued carrying out air strikes in Gaza and that health ministry data shows Israel has killed at least 1,098 Palestinians and wounding 3,535 during the so-called ceasefire.

The New Indian Express reported that at least 1,098 Palestinians, including at least 260 children, have been killed since the ceasefire, and said five Israeli soldiers have been killed in that time.
Al Jazeera added that since October, Israel has expanded its control over the enclave beyond the so-called “Yellow Line,” and said Gaza’s Government Media Office reported Israeli forces now control about 80 percent of Gaza.
The New Indian Express said the Israeli military acknowledged striking the area, saying it targeted “terrorist infrastructure,” without elaborating, and later claimed to have struck a Hamas weapon production site.
Negotiations and displacement
Al Jazeera said the latest violence came as Hamas leaders visited Cairo for further talks on implementing the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, with discussions including Hamas disarmament and Israeli army withdrawals.

Al Jazeera also said the negotiations include Hamas disarmament and Israeli army withdrawals, and that sources close to the talks said no breakthrough has been achieved.
The New Indian Express reported that negotiations between Israel and Hamas remain largely deadlocked over the implementation of the ceasefire's second phase, including the disarmament of Hamas and the reconstruction of Gaza.
The New Indian Express said most of the population of over two million people remains displaced, with many living in crowded tent camps with little or no basic services or in the ruins of buildings.
The Palestine Chronicle said large parts of the Strip remain in ruins and that approximately 90 percent of civilian infrastructure is either destroyed or damaged, including homes, schools, hospitals, roads and water networks.
