Quneitra raid and shelling

Israeli forces raided the village of Al-Samadaniyah Al-Gharbiyah in the northern countryside of Syria's Quneitra province on Sunday, detaining a civilian after searching a house, Syria's state news agency SANA reported.

Shafaq News said the raid followed Israeli artillery shelling targeting the outskirts of the nearby village of Tarnajah in northern Quneitra, and that Israeli forces advanced into the western countryside of Daraa.

TRT World reported that Israeli forces shelled the countryside of Syria's Quneitra province on Sunday and reportedly carried out a ground incursion into western Daraa, citing Syrian state broadcaster Alikhbariah TV.

The SANA correspondent in Quneitra said the force entered the village composed of several military vehicles, stormed the village and searched a dwelling, before detaining a citizen and then withdrawing from the area.

In the same reporting stream, SANA said earlier in the day Israeli occupation forces had also shelled the environs of Taranja with artillery in northern Quneitra.

Guterres condemns violations

The escalation coincided with a visit by UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the headquarters of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in the Golan Heights, where he stated that the Israeli violations of Syria's sovereignty were "unacceptable".

TRT World quoted Guterres condemning what he described as repeated violations of Syria's sovereignty, saying, "Violations of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity are unacceptable and must cease,".

Al Jazeera said the UN chief condemned Israel’s violations as Israeli soldiers advanced towards villages in southwestern Syria on Sunday, setting up a checkpoint at Al-Ardah while shelling was also heard nearby, according to SANA.

Al Jazeera also reported that Guterres said the UN is set to submit a comprehensive report to the UN Security Council on the issue at the end of the month.

In Damascus, Shafaq News reported that transitional President Ahmed Al-Sharaa said Damascus is working toward a security agreement with Israel involving several countries, while insisting Syria would not relinquish its claim to the occupied Golan Heights.

Checkpoint, sovereignty, and risk

Al Jazeera reported that Israeli soldiers advanced towards villages in southwestern Syria on Sunday, setting up a checkpoint at Al-Ardah, while leaflets were dropped warning residents against attempting to obstruct the advance of Israeli vehicles.

In the same account, Al Jazeera said Israeli officials intend to remain in southern Syria in what they call a "security zone," while Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani called for Israel’s withdrawal from the buffer zone on Saturday, saying its continued military operations and occupation are a "direct threat to the security of the region".

Shafaq News said the escalation followed Israeli artillery shelling targeting the outskirts of Tarnajah in northern Quneitra, and that Israeli military activity renewed as artillery fire struck parts of Quneitra and Israeli forces advanced into the western countryside of Daraa.

TRT World described the reported Israeli aggression as coinciding with Guterres' three-day visit to Syria, during which he is expected to visit UNDOF in the occupied Golan Heights as part of efforts to monitor commitments under the Syria-Israel ceasefire agreement.

Al Jazeera added that Guterres urged the removal of all sanctions imposed on Syria during the era of al-Assad, and said he came carrying an appeal to support the Syrian people and the Syrian government at what he called a "moment of opportunity" to recover from the 13-year war.
