Israeli Forces Seal Off Jenin Zakat Funds Committee Ahead of Eid Al-Adha

Israeli forces on Thursday sealed off the headquarters of the Zakat Funds Committee, associated with the Palestinian Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, in the town of Jenin in the northern part of the occupied West Bank, storming the offices, seizing items, and ordering a closure.

In a separate incident reported by WAFA, Israeli forces raided a shop in the town’s commercial market and confiscated agricultural materials.

WAFA said Israeli occupation forces closed the committee’s headquarters in the center of Jenin on Thursday morning and confiscated some of its contents, after storming the committee’s headquarters, seizing items, and ordering its closure.

Al-Jazeera Mubasher footage described Israeli soldiers breaking office contents and windows during the raid, and the committee’s head said employees arrived around 8:30 a.m. to find the office closed and notices on its doors in both Arabic and English.

The Al-Jazeera Net report said the closure came ahead of Eid al-Adha, with the committee preparing to provide humanitarian aid to poor, devout, and orphaned families in the governorate.

Al-Jazeera Mubasher quoted Samir Al-Suqai, the head of the committee, saying employees were surprised in the morning when they went to work to find the office closed and notices on its doors in both Arabic and English stating that the committee 'supports terrorism'.

Al-Suqai told Al Jazeera Mubasher that it was decided to close it by the Israeli army, and he said the employees arrived at the office around 8:30 a.m. before it became clear to them that the occupation forces had closed the premises and prevented entry.

The WAFA account described the raid as Israeli troops storming the committee’s headquarters in the center of Jenin, seizing items from inside, and ordering its closure.

In the same WAFA report, Israeli forces also stormed the commercial market in the center of Jenin, raided a shop, and seized agricultural materials from inside.

Al-Jazeera Net added that the head of the Jenin Zakat Committee said the committee had been preparing to provide humanitarian aid to poor, devout, and orphaned families as Eid al-Adha approached, noting that dozens of citizens were visiting the headquarters daily to request help.

Al-Jazeera Net linked the Jenin closure to a wider pattern of raids and searches and closures carried out by the Israeli army since the start of the war of extermination against the Gaza Strip in October 2023.
