Netanya police shooting
An Israeli soldier opened fire on police officers in Netanya and was seriously injured during a shootout, according to Israeli media cited by Anadolu Ajansı.

An incident began in the Kiryat HaSharon neighborhood of Netanya when a gunman opened fire at residential buildings and responding officers, and large forces from the Central District were dispatched after urgent reports of active gunfire, according to Roya News.
Israel Police said the suspect was neutralized by officers at the scene, and at this stage no injuries were reported among police officers, according to The Jerusalem Post.
The Times of Israel reported police shot dead a suspect in the coastal city of Netanya who fired at officers, and said there were no reports of injuries among officers while a motive was not immediately clear.
Residents and officials react
Residents described panic as bursts of gunfire echoed through the neighborhood, with one woman telling ynetglobal, "We heard shots, everyone was obviously scared and ran inside," and another resident, Amir, saying, "It was very frightening."
Avigal Cohen said the shooting lasted for an extended period and sent residents scrambling for shelter, telling ynetglobal, "There were lots of shots. It took the police time to arrive."
Idan Kleiman, chairman of the IDF Disabled Veterans Organization, called for a full investigation and said the case should serve as a warning about the treatment of veterans suffering from combat trauma, quoting him in The Times of Israel as, "This difficult incident in Netanya requires a full and thorough investigation."
Kleiman urged National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to order a joint review by the IDF and Defense Ministry, and The Times of Israel quoted him saying the state must not abandon "the tens of thousands of female and male fighters" who face the battle long after returning from the battlefield.
Trauma, investigation, and aftermath
Israeli outlets linked the suspect to combat trauma and mental health concerns, with Israel National News saying the suspect was likely suffering combat trauma and was declared dead Saturday night after opening fire at police officers in the Kiryat Hasharon neighborhood of Netanya.

Israel National News identified the suspect as Second Sergeant David Hoyer Amrani, 20, and said he enlisted in the Border Police in August 2024 and was stationed in Hebron working with the Border Police in Judea and Samaria.
The Times of Israel said police identified the shooter as Amrani, 20, and reported that police initially said officers had "neutralized" a gunman before adding that "the circumstances of the incident are under investigation."
The Times of Israel also reported that Amrani was said to have been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, and it quoted Kleiman urging Ben Gvir to "immediately order a joint investigation by the IDF and Defense Ministry" to examine the circumstances and assistance provided.
