- Indictment last month named a Gaza resident linked to the smuggling scheme.
Aid, goods, and indictments
Haaretz reported that an indictment filed last month against a Gaza resident alleges that Israeli security forces secretly helped smuggle unsupervised goods into the Gaza Strip over the past two years.
“Haaretz, the Israeli newspaper, revealed that the Israeli occupation’s security establishment facilitated operations to smuggle goods not subject to control into the Gaza Strip over the past two years”
The indictment described in Al-Jazeera Net says the smuggling network was coordinated with the Israeli security establishment, with the person known as 'Abu Basil' controlling which prohibited items were brought, when they were brought, and which trucks were used.

Al-Jazeera Net further states that the indictment alleges a system for moving goods in which goods were moved to warehouses in Beit Arava kibbutz in the Jordan Valley and then loaded onto trucks that reached Kerem Shalom crossing before being replaced by drivers from Gaza.
The same Al-Jazeera Net account says the indictment alleges that during the ceasefire and hostage-return in October 2025, five trucks crossed into Gaza loaded with diesel fuel, refrigerators containing meat and chicken, an excavator, a bulldozer, tobacco, cigarettes, mobile phones, and laptops.
In parallel, الشرق الأوسط says Israel intensified the blockade of the Gaza Strip and tightened the squeeze on about 2.2 million Palestinians in the enclave, reducing the entry of humanitarian aid and commercial goods.
Prices, shortages, and travel
Human Rights Watch describes the blockade as touching “virtually every aspect of daily life,” including “getting medical care” and “drinking water,” and says 80% of the population depends on humanitarian aid.
In the same interview, Omar Shakir (OS) says Israel imposes “a generalized travel ban on the Gazan population,” and adds that “To exit, one must obtain an Israeli permit, rarely granted.”

Amnesty International France frames Europe’s role by calling for the EU to suspend its association agreement with Israel, warning that “Not suspending this agreement risks being complicit in the crimes of the State of Israel.”
The الشرق الأوسط account ties the blockade to shortages and rising prices in Gaza, stating that the price of a kilogram of flour rose from two to ten shekels and that the price of a kilogram of sugar rose from two to nineteen shekels.
It also reports that the price of a single cigarette in Gaza reached 150 shekels and that the price of a kilogram of rice rose to twenty shekels from not more than five shekels.
What’s next for Gaza
The الشرق الأوسط report says a joint statement issued by the Israeli General Security Service (Shin Bet), the police, and the Israeli army said that, following a joint investigation, “an indictment was filed against two officers and a civilian” suspected of involvement in a goods-smuggling operation into the Gaza Strip.

It adds that the investigation described smuggling goods to the Gaza Strip in humanitarian aid trucks “in exchange for hundreds of thousands of shekels,” and says the trucks were halted due to a technical fault on their way to Gaza.
The same report says police sources claim that arrests “dried up smuggling operations,” while it also describes Gaza residents as impoverished by rising prices and left “hungry and thirsty.”
Amnesty International France argues that the EU has a “strategic lever” because member states have the means to influence Israel, and it calls for suspending trade agreements with Israel.
In Haaretz’s account, the alleged smuggling assistance is tied to an indictment filed last month, and it says the case reveals security forces “secretly aided” in delivering unsupervised goods into the Gaza Strip.
