Israeli Soldiers Kill Captain David Hazutt in Clash With Hezbollah Fighter in Deir Seryan

An Israeli officer was killed and a soldier was wounded on Sunday in fighting with a Hezbollah fighter in southern Lebanon, according to the Israeli military.

The military said Captain David Hazutt, 21, a platoon commander, "fell in combat" in southern Lebanon, and it said the death brought Israel's military losses to 38 soldiers and one civilian contractor since the war between Israel and Hezbollah erupted in early March.

An Israeli army probe said that at around 2 a.m. Israeli soldiers encountered a Hezbollah operative as they entered a structure in the village of Deir Seryan, and during the clash the officer was killed and another soldier was lightly hurt.

Troops later launched searches for the operative and "struck Hezbollah sites in the area," the Israeli military added.

On Sunday, the Lebanese state news agency reported a new Israeli attack targeting the outskirts of the towns of Deir Seryan and Taybeh in southern Lebanon.

Even with a ceasefire with Lebanon, Anadolu Ajansı reported that Israel carried out airstrikes against southern Lebanon and targeted areas in the Nabatieh Governorate.

An Anadolu Ajansı account, citing the official Lebanese news agency (NNA), said an Israeli drone targeted the Upper Nabatieh region and that Israeli fighter jets bombed the area around Deir Srian.

The same Anadolu Ajansı report said Israeli forces shelled rural areas of the Shebaa and Shoya towns in the Hasbaya District with artillery rounds containing cluster munitions.

In a separate account, Fararu reported that Israeli fighter jets bombed the Deir Srian settlement on Sunday, and it said Lebanon's national news agency, citing the Ministry of Health, reported that a civilian was killed in the Israeli attack on the area around the towns of Deir Srian and Al-Tayiba.

A Fararu report also said that two days after a framework agreement brokered by the United States between Lebanon and Israel was concluded, the Israeli army continued its attacks in southern Lebanon.

Eghtesad News, citing Mehr News Agency and the media of the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon, said the group’s Operations Room announced it carried out 14 military operations in the last 24 hours in response to repeated violations of the ceasefire and attacks by the Zionist regime against Lebanese civilians.

It said that in one operation, the vehicle of the commander of the Israeli army's 300th Brigade in the settlement of Shomira was targeted by a suicide drone.

The account also said an Iron Dome platform at the 'Galilee Forests' base, a D9 military bulldozer, and an Israeli army communications vehicle around the settlement of Deir Saryan were destroyed.

In another operation, it said the group fired a surface-to-air missile toward an Israeli Air Force fighter, and it added that a newly established Israeli army base at Maroun al-Ras was targeted with two suicide drones.

The same source said Hezbollah stressed that these operations were conducted on the basis of the legitimate right to resist and defend Lebanon's territory and people, and that this was "the least that can be done to deter and curb the crimes and dangerous aims of the Zionist regime."
