Iran-Israel escalation
Air-raid sirens sounded in central Israel after the Israeli army said missiles fired from Iran toward Israel were identified and that interception operations were underway, as Iran launched new attacks on Israel and American bases, state TV announced.
In Iran, AFP journalists reported a new series of powerful detonations around 05:30 local time (02:00 GMT), with explosions striking the eastern neighborhoods of the Iranian capital around 04:00 (00:30 GMT).

The death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was confirmed by Iranian state TV, and L'Orient-Le Jour reported that three top officials, including President Massoud Pezeshkian, would oversee the transition in Iran after the death was announced by Mohammad Mokhber.
Iran’s judiciary’s Mizan agency reported that Mohammad Pakpour, head of the Guards, and Ali Shamkhani, a close adviser to the supreme leader who headed the National Defense Council, fell as martyrs in Israeli-American strikes on Tehran on Saturday.
The Revolutionary Guards promised Sunday the “fiercest offensive in history” against Israel and the United States, saying the operation would begin any moment against the occupied territories and the American terrorist bases.
Reactions and mourning
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Sunday that the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei will not be mourned, adding that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was responsible for the regime’s nuclear and ballistic programs and for supporting armed groups.
In the same coverage, L'Orient-Le Jour said Iran decreed a 40-day mourning period and seven holidays after the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who had been in power since 1989.
AFP journalists noted thousands converging on Sunday toward the iconic Enghelab Square in central Tehran after the death of the supreme leader Ali Khamenei was announced.
L'Orient-Le Jour also reported that a state TV presenter, sobbing, said that with the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader, his path and mission would not be lost or forgotten.
The Revolutionary Guards promised severe punishment to the murderers of Ali Khamenei, condemning the “malevolent governments of the United States and the Zionist regime” and saying the vengeful hand of the Iranian nation would not let them go.
Gaza and West Bank
In Gaza, TRT Français reported that in violation of the ceasefire, Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian woman and wounded others early Friday morning to the west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, while the Israeli army launched air strikes and demolished buildings east of Gaza City.

The same Middle East Monitor report said the attack occurred under the protection of the Israeli army, and it also described Israeli occupiers attacking an area surrounding Palestinian homes in the northern part of Sinjil, north of Ramallah, with residents forcing them to retreat.
WAFA Agency reported that a Palestinian on Sunday evening sustained an injury from Israeli army fire in the Qalandia refugee camp, north of Jerusalem, and said PRCS paramedics provided first-aid treatment to a young man who sustained a gunshot injury in the thigh.
