In a statement posted on social media, JD Vance wrote, "We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning," and said Usha and the baby were "happy and healthy."

The announcement also thanked the "Walter Reed Medical Center" and the "White House Medical Unit" for their care, according to the statement described by The Independent.
BBC reported that the birth was the first time a baby has been born to a sitting vice-president while in office for more than 150 years, and it said the Vances already have three other children: Ewan, 9, Vivek, 6, and Mirabel, four-year-old.
Doctors, Location, and Family
CBS News said Usha Vance delivered the child at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, just north of Washington, D.C., where she is recovering.
CBS also reported that the Vances posted the announcement on X and that the family’s arrival marked "the first time in modern history that the nation's second family had a child while in office."

In the same CBS account, the outlet said the Vances have been married since 2014 and listed their children as Ewan, age 9, Vivek, 6, and daughter Mirabel, age 4.
CNN added that the couple will spend more time in rural northern Virginia by leasing part of a multimillion-dollar property in Middleburg, while maintaining their official residence at the Naval Observatory.

In an ABC News interview referenced by the CNN report, Usha Vance said, "Everything that we do is in the public eye," and added that "people see it" if her children misbehave or get sick.
NBC News said Usha Vance, 40, is the first woman since the 1870s to give birth while her husband is vice president, and it noted the couple announced the pregnancy in January and said she was due in late July.
NBC News also reported that the vice president and second lady are considering leasing a house in Middleburg, Virginia, separate from the vice president’s residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., and that the Secret Service is planning to provide additional security for the rural property.
