Norris stays to 2030
Reigning Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris signed a contract extension with McLaren that will keep him at the team until at least the end of 2030, with an option for a multi-year extension beyond that date.

Norris made the announcement at McLaren’s annual family and friends open day on Saturday morning at its factory in Woking, UK, and the deal locks him in for at least another four years even though he was still under contract for next year.
The extension comes after Norris secured back-to-back wins with victory at the Dutch Grand Prix, and France 24 reported that his resurgence has shown there is still all to play for after wins in Hungary and the Netherlands.
McLaren said the agreement includes a gift for Norris of the MCL39 car he used to secure his first F1 title last year, and team principal Andrea Stella said, "Lando has been an integral part of McLaren's journey and success over the last nine years."

In his statement, Norris said, "McLaren is my home, and I'm very pleased to be signing a new contract to keep me with the team until at least 2030," framing the renewal as a continuation of goals he set when he started the journey nine years ago.
Andrea Stella, McLaren’s team principal, described Norris as "an exceptional driver, someone who combines outstanding natural speed with maturity, consistency and a strong commitment to McLaren," and said the team is delighted to continue the partnership through to at least 2030.
The New York Times also reported that McLaren stated there was a multi-year option to extend beyond the end of the 2030 season as part of the agreement, while Norris’ previous long-term deal was signed in early 2024.
France 24 added that the contract includes an option for a multi-year extension beyond 2030, and noted that Norris sits fourth in this year’s championship, trailing Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli by 83 points with 11 races left in the season.

The extension is presented as removing Norris from any conversation around driver market movements in the coming years, with The New York Times noting that Verstappen announced his own extension through to 2030 at the Dutch Grand Prix.

The New York Times said the new contract also provides stability for McLaren after it became a back-to-back constructors’ championship winner in 2024 and 2025, and it reported that Norris ended the team’s 17-year wait for a drivers’ championship after beating Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by two points in the final standings.
France 24 reported that Norris’s resurgence included wins in Hungary and the Netherlands, and it said his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri extended his contact at the start of the 2025 season on a deal believed to run until at least 2028.
With Norris committed through at least 2030, the sources tie the next phase of McLaren’s push to the same leadership and driver pairing, as Stella said McLaren can count on "one of the strongest partnerships" with him and Oscar Piastri.
