CBS News reported that the video took fans to an offline live stream and that the thumbnail image was a graphic for Dwyane Wade’s statue unveiling ceremony.

Snopes said the link was soon made private on YouTube and delisted from Google search, but remained findable in Bing and DuckDuckGo search results.

Snopes also noted that the video was “titled 'LeBron James Introductory Press Conference'” and that the claim spread across social media, including on Reddit and Instagram, after the Heat’s YouTube channel posted and deleted it on July 21.

Team says it was a mistake

A Heat spokesperson told Reuters that the video was posted by mistake as preparation for the possible signing of James with Miami, according to Hoy Digital.

Rich Paul, friend and agent of James, said on “Game Over with Max Kellerman and Rich Paul” that “No nos vamos a precipitar,” adding that it was “Es su decisión y cuando la tome, la tomará”.

The Miami Herald reported that a Heat spokesperson said the “LeBron James Introductory Press Conference | July 27, 2026” video was mistakenly made public while preparing for the possibility of James eventually deciding to join the Heat this offseason.

NBC News similarly described that ESPN’s Shams Charania said the team’s social media department was “preparing for the possibility of James’ signing and mistakenly posted the link,” which was quickly deleted.

Decision watch and markets

As the NBA offseason decision loomed, the Washington Post described a brief moment Tuesday night when it seemed James had made his decision, after the Heat posted and then deleted the “LeBron James Introductory Press Conference” link.

The Palm Beach Post reported that prediction markets reacted immediately, saying Kalshi traders boosted Miami’s odds of landing James to 51% following the post, up from 39% earlier in the day.

The Palm Beach Post also said Cleveland dropped to 27% and Golden State was at 13%, while James remained uncommitted three weeks into free agency.

UPI reported that NBA commissioner Adam Silver said he “would like him to make his announcement already” so the NBA could finish the 2026-27 regular-season schedule, while Rich Paul said, “It could be 48 seconds, it could be 48 minutes, I don’t know.”
