Ablation in Manchester
Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay underwent an ablation procedure at Spire Manchester Hospital on Tuesday morning after being diagnosed with "a mild benign arrhythmia".
“On Tuesday morning, Scott McTominay underwent an ablation procedure at Spire Manchester Hospital.”
Napoli said the operation was "a complete success" and that McTominay will rest for two weeks and then resume training, with the procedure described as using heat or cold energy to create tiny scars in the heart to block faulty signals.

The surgery took place in Manchester, and McTominay, 29, is set to be out of action for a fortnight as he recovers.
The BBC reported that the ablation followed McTominay being substituted after 56 minutes of Napoli's 2-1 Serie A defeat by Como on 30 August, when the mild benign arrhythmia was discovered.
Napoli had previously announced McTominay’s upcoming short absence last week, saying he would be "available again after the international break".
Missing Arsenal, Nations League
McTominay’s recovery timeline means he will miss Napoli’s Champions League opener against Arsenal on Wednesday evening, as well as the first four matches of Sebastien Pocognoli’s Scotland reign.
The Scotsman said those Nations League fixtures include matches against Slovenia (two games), Switzerland and North Macedonia, with the Scotland head coach’s first four games scheduled for the end of September and early October.

The Daily Mail reported that McTominay will return to training in two weeks after the successful heart surgery, and it quoted Napoli’s statement that "McTominay will rest for two weeks and then resume training."
LBC also said the midfielder is set to remain out of action for at least two weeks and repeated Napoli’s line that "The operation was a complete success."
McTominay posted on Instagram after the diagnosis, writing: "See you soon Napoli. I won't take long."
Recovery and wider implications
Manchester Evening News reported that Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna said "It will take 28 days for sporting fitness" because McTominay will take anticoagulant drugs.

The same report said that for two weeks, the player will rest and then resume competitive activity without contact, tying the return to training and match readiness to the recovery plan.
The BBC described the ablation as a minimally invasive operation to correct irregular heart rhythms, and it said Napoli expect McTominay to resume training this month.
Goal added that Udinese midfielder Jakub Piotrowski will undergo a cardiac ablation after doctors detected a mild benign heart arrhythmia during the match against Lazio, with the operation described as the same type of procedure as McTominay’s.
In the Daily Mail, McTominay’s partner Cam Reading sent support ahead of surgery, writing: "By your side, always so proud of you."
