Budapest final ends 1-1

Paris Saint-Germain beat Arsenal 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in extra time in the Champions League final at the Puskas Arena in Budapest on Saturday.

The penalty shootout ended with Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhaes missing for Arsenal, while PSG converted enough spot-kicks to celebrate back-to-back European crowns.

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard said, "Everyone is really disappointed. When you are that close to winning, it is really tough to take," after the defeat.

PSG star Joao Neves claimed PSG were "the only team that wanted to play in the Champions League final," as the French side celebrated their second consecutive title.

Gabriel in tears

Gabriel Magalhaes missed the penalty that lost Arsenal the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, and Football London described him as bursting into tears after his spot-kick went over the crossbar.

Eberechi Eze was the first to miss for Mikel Arteta’s side, and Football London said David Raya made a terrific save from Nuno Mendes in the following spot-kick.

Declan Rice told Bolavip US that the result was "It’s a lottery. Some of the best teams ever have lost on penalties in finals, and we were on the receiving end."

Rice added, "We gave absolutely everything… we win together, and we lose together," as Arsenal players rushed to console Gabriel after the shootout.

The Mirror also quoted Odegaard on TNT Sports, saying, "At the same time, we know what we have done this season. And we've achieved something incredible, and we were so close to doing even better today."

Back-to-back PSG, Arsenal

France 24 quoted Luis Enrique saying, "As a club and a city, it’s incredible to win, and I think we deserved it over the course of the season," as he described the final as "a real battle."

The Mirror reported that PSG celebrate back-to-back European crowns, having also seen off Inter Milan 12 months ago, and it framed the night as a Champions League final decided from the spot.

Arsenal’s season ended with the Premier League crown but without a European trophy, and talkSPORT said Rice told TNT Sports, "We will be back."

talkSPORT also recorded Arteta’s message after the shootout defeat, saying, "We haven't done it for 22 years, so imagine the second time in our history that we have done it."
