A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said, “The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements,” as the children started school last week after the family’s move from the US last month.

Sky News said the move happened “just days after the start of term due to security concerns,” with Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, beginning classes after their move back to Britain.

The family’s new home location and the children’s school details were kept private, and the Sussexes were described as non-working royals while their security arrangements are reviewed.

Multiple outlets tied the school change to the practicalities of the school run, including heavy traffic and the distance between the school and the family’s home.

Hello! Magazine, as relayed by Marie Claire, said the decision was based on “heavy traffic” and security concerns getting there, and that a friend described the school as “perfect for them in every way.”

A Sussex spokesperson told People, “The decision for the children to move schools was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements.”

People also reported that concerns were elevated after an incident “made it difficult for their vehicles to stay in convoy,” and that the couple’s bodyguards checked the school over the summer but the school run could not be assessed until classes were back in session.

Newsweek similarly said the children were withdrawn after concerns emerged over getting them safely to and from the property, with heavy traffic and the distance between the school and the family’s current home understood to have contributed to the concerns.

The school move comes as the Sussexes’ security status remains under review by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee, known as RAVEC, which is tasked with deciding who gets royal and VIP security in the U.K.

People said it was revealed on Monday, Sept. 14, that Prince Harry and Meghan will have a security assessment imminently by RAVEC, and that the couple lost their automatic police security in the U.K. after they stepped back from their royal roles in 2020.

The Telegraph reported that RAVEC, part of the Home Office, commissioned a new risk assessment for the Duke and a separate one for his wife, and it said the committee is expected to meet again to discuss findings when the review is completed.
