Return to Britain
Prince Harry and Meghan are planning to move back to Britain after six years in the United States, with the BBC saying the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to return and that their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are enrolled to start at a British school in September.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are planning to move back to the UK”
The BBC reported that King Charles was told of the move on Sunday and that there are no current plans for either Prince Harry or Meghan to resume their roles as working Royals.

The BBC said the Sussexes and their children visited the King at his Highgrove home in July this year, but it was understood the move was not discussed.
The BBC also said the Palace described the meeting at the King's private home in Gloucestershire as a "private family occasion" and that it was the first time the King had seen his grandchildren in person in more than four years.
The New York Times reported that King Charles III was informed of the decision on Sunday and that the move was not discussed when the duke and duchess visited Britain and met with the king this summer.
Security and status
The BBC said security for the couple has long been a point of tension, with the July visit being reconsidered because the duke's request for police protection was rejected.
In the Guardian’s account of the security dispute, Prince Harry said in May 2025, "I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point."

The Guardian also reported that Prince Harry said he “would love a reconciliation” with the royal family after losing a privacy case against the publishers of the Daily Mail in London.
The BBC said there will be no expected change to the official status of Prince Harry and Meghan and they will remain as private individuals.
The New York Times similarly said there will be no change in Harry and Meghan’s status as non-working royals, and they will remain as private individuals while they reside in Britain.
What happens next
The BBC said Prince William and Princess Catherine have also been informed of the Sussexes’ plans to move back to Britain.
“Prince William and Princess Catherine have also been informed of their plans.”
The New York Times reported that the move comes six years after Harry and Meghan left for the United States amid a clash with other members of the royal family, and that the surprise announcement ends a self-imposed exile for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex that began amid anger and recriminations.
The BBC said Prince Harry and Meghan had not been in the UK together since 2022, when they attended the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, and that the July visit to Highgrove was the first time the King had seen the whole family in person in more than four years.
The New York Times said Prince Harry was stripped of his honorary military titles and royal patronage appointments in 2021, a year after announcing that he and his wife would "step back" from their official duties.
The BBC added that the Sussexes’ move from California does not include any current plans for either Prince Harry or Meghan to resume their roles as working Royals, even as their children prepare to start school in September.
