William represents Charles
Britain’s Prince William will attend the funeral of King Harald V of Norway in Oslo on Wednesday, representing his father King Charles, Buckingham Palace announced.
“The Prince of Wales will attend the funeral of King Harald V of Norway on Wednesday in Oslo”
The BBC said William’s attendance follows the convention that the monarch does not usually go to the funeral of another head of state, with the service scheduled for 9 September at Oslo Cathedral.

The Guardian reported that William will be joined by his aunt the Princess Royal, who is attending in a private and personal capacity as godmother of the new king, Haakon VIII.
The Guardian also said Norway has seen an outpouring of grief for Harald, who died on 28 August at the age of 89, and that the funeral will include mourners including his widow, Sonja, now the queen mother.
Condolences and precedent
The Guardian said Charles paid tribute to his “dear cousin” and “much-loved kinsman and friend” after the news of Harald’s death was announced.
In the same account, the Guardian quoted Charles praising Harald’s “unwavering dedication” and his “kindness, compassion and deep sense of duty echoed from across the sea and across the decades”.

The BBC described Harald as a popular, modernising figure who had been on the Norwegian throne for 35 years and said large crowds were expected for the farewell on 9 September.
The BBC also said the funeral procession would be followed by a service at Oslo Cathedral, and that the service would be followed by a private burial in Norway’s royal mausoleum in the Akershus Fortress.
Who else attends
The BBC said that at the funeral, alongside Prince William, will be the widowed Queen Sonja, members of the Norwegian royal family including new King Haakon VIII, and other European royals.

The BBC added that the service will be followed by a private burial in Norway’s royal mausoleum in the Akershus Fortress, and that Harald’s son King Haakon delivered an emotional televised speech saying: "Thank you for being such a good dad."
The Guardian said the duty falls to William in keeping with precedent that the sovereign does not attend funerals of other heads of state, and it noted Charles’s message of condolence praised Harald’s “unwavering dedication”.
The BBC also reported that the King will be hosting Andy Burnham at Balmoral this weekend, in the traditional annual visit of the prime minister to stay with the monarch.
