Hospital drone strike
On Friday, May 30, 2025, six people were killed in a bombardment attributed to paramilitaries in central Sudan, after a drone strike hit the Social Insurance Hospital in the city of El-Obeid, killing six and wounding twelve, according to a source within the army referring to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
“We regret to report, with deep sadness, that we are witnessing deaths caused by hunger and malnutrition”
The medical source at El-Obeid's main hospital confirmed the six-death toll and said the Social Insurance Hospital had to close due to damage caused by the strike.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus reacted on X to another deadly attack on Eldaman International Hospital in El-Obeid, writing, "We are appalled by another deadly attack on Eldaman International Hospital in El-Obeid, Sudan, during which six health workers were killed and several others injured."
In the same report, the UN World Food Programme said on Thursday, May 29, 2025 that its center in El-Obeid had been damaged by repeated bombardments by the RSF.
The tv5monde account also says the militia, which has been at war with the army since April 2023, carried out attacks in populated areas with heavy artillery, notably targeting a second hospital.
Cholera surge and figures
Sudan’s cholera outbreak has killed 70 people in two days in Khartoum, with the Sudanese Ministry of Health reporting 942 new infections and 25 deaths for Wednesday after 1,177 new cases and 45 deaths on Tuesday, according to Radio-Canada.
Radio-Canada also reports that vaccination campaigns began on Tuesday in the locality of Jebel Awlia, south of Khartoum, and that the World Health Organization delivered more than 22 metric tons of emergency health supplies and cholera response materials.

The tv5monde report says the outbreak comes after weeks of drone strikes attributed to the RSF, which have knocked out the capital's water and electricity supplies, and it adds that UNICEF says more than one million children are at risk of contracting cholera in Khartoum State.
In Khartoum State, tv5monde says more than 7,700 cases have been recorded since the start of the year, including 1,000 children under five, and 185 deaths, while it notes that OCHA fears a higher real toll.
Radio-Canada quotes the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs as warning about gaps in official data and says a regional partner organization’s suspected-contamination cases jumped 80% over the past two weeks to more than 8,500.
Kordofan killings and displacement
The UN News report says the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, lamented a new flare-up of deadly violence in Kordofan, saying, "It is deplorable to see that more than two years after the start of the conflict, the parties continue to show total disregard for the lives and safety of civilians."

UN News reports that Volker Türk's office has verified the killing of at least 60 civilians by the RSF in Bara, North Kordofan, since July 10, and it adds that some civil society groups mention a death toll of 300.
The same UN News account says around thirty civilians were killed in bombardments by the regular army on two villages in western Kordofan, and it describes the humanitarian situation as deteriorating rapidly with hundreds of families forced to flee.
UN News also reports that the International Organization for Migration said more than 700 families were forced to flee Bara in less than five days, heading toward other towns in North Kordofan, as well as Khartoum or the White Nile state.
Courrier international links the war to famine in El-Fasher by describing deaths caused by hunger and malnutrition reported by Sudan Tribune and issued by the Coordination Council for North Darfur’s Emergency Rooms, while it says the cost of a basic food basket in May was more than six times the national average.
